Default NFLN's Path to the Draft - Texans on the Clock Wed 3/25

Programming note... if you receive the NFL Network, you may want to set your DVRs to record Path to the Draft on Wednesday evening, either 5:30pm or 9pm CDT. The Texans and their draft needs will apparently be a focus of the show.

On there segment on How the Texans get to the next level on NFL TOTAL ACCESS tonight, both Marshall Faulk and Jamie Dukes said noway we get out of the basement. They both blasted the team for the trade of Sage when Schaub has not shown he can stay healthy. BTW Kubiak did not help when he said that it made our team better, when he meant that Sage wanted a chance to start and we where not going to give it to him.

They both said our OL sucks and we need a real RB to help carry the load with Slaton.

Dukes did say he liked the addition of Bill Kollar, he thought Kollar would help Okoye, which would mean help for Mario. They did mention the Smith signing but only in passing.

They said only a near perfect season got the Titans over the Colts and we are far from being a team that can be perfect. They did say 10-6 was possible, but that 11-5 missed the playoff last season. So.

IN conclusion it had more to do with the strength of the AFC in general and the AFC South and the Colts owning us and less to do with the growth of the team.

That's right on as far as I'm concerned. We could have a winning season but be < .500 as ususal in our own division and miss the playoffs. And don't forget the Jags had an off year, they might be back at their '07 level in '09 ?
And it was good to see Haynesworth leave the division (the whole damn conference for that matter), but the NFLNetwork guys are right, for sure our real nemesis is Peyton M.

I didn't catch the whole segment, but when they said something about needing a real RB between the tackles and someone to help Slaton out because he isn't an every down back I figured I didn't miss much. I agree that we need someone to take the load off of Slaton, but I think he proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that he can be a feature back in this league . They still acted as if he was nothing more than a 3rd down type back.

JUST maybe Indy will not be that same without Dungy. At least I hope it gives us just that little edge we have been missing.

I hope the same can be said about the Tacks without Haynesworth.

I got to watch both "the path to draft" and the "nfl total access" discussing Texans this evening. On access, Marshall Faulk did seem uninformed and critical of Texans while Dukes was more favorable on Texans. On path to draft sounds like OLB, S, DE, CB and then RB being suggested. Some hilite as mentioned Schaub is 10-12 over two years, so out 5 games each year, so is our new backup QB good enough or will more run game, play calling keep Schaub healthier. I guess we are improving, and rest of our division getting weaker, slightly, so , if we take care of ball, defense improves, we got a shot.

The "experts" say the same thing every year about Brian Westbrook.

On Path to the Draft, John McClain shook his head at the notion of the Texans looking at any offensive player in the first round, including Knowshon. Just because we had the 3rd best offense and 23rd best defense doesn't mean we HAVE to take a defensive player at #15.

I hope we don't let needs dictate what we do in the draft. If the best player available at #15 is offensive, we MUST trade down or take that offensive player.

Watched the show. Pretty much just a segment with a remote John McClain. The flies circling McClain were hilarious. I'll refrain from any obvious jokes here in deference to the recent downsizing of his co-workers. Sad day there at the chron earlier this week.

NFLN listed DE as the team's top need, but McClain remained steadfast in thinking an outside LB will the pick, specifically Clay Matthews. He also made perfectly clear that the team will not look at an offensive skill position in the first round, noting all the changes in defensive coaches this offseason and the lower overall ranking versus #3 for the offense.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

I have been having this disscusion for awhile now on another board and it amazes me how people think our offense is so great that we shouldnt draft any offense except a backup RB in the later rounds. First off thats a horrible way to approach the draft. Second we were 3rd in the NFL in YPG. That doesnt meen sht. The true stat is we wre 17th in points scored. Thats a better guage of where we are as an offense. YPG can be missleading for so many reasons.
