Default THR Computer Mock

Thehuddlereport.com is a pay site that is fun to surf. Besides funny profiles, they do mock drafts including a Computer generated 7 round one. Based upon all of the flack I've been seeing about Jeremy Maclin as a player who doesn't make the team better because he doesn't address a "need" I have subsequently placed Peria Jerry ahead of him on my draft board. That's important because in this draft I had my choice between the two.

Anyway, THR had us selecting the following:
15 RB Chris Wells
46 CB Darius Butler
77 TE Jared Cook
108 S Rashad Johnson
144 DT Corvey Irvin
175 DE Tim Jamison
206 K Graham Gano

Using my board, I selected:
15 DT Peria Jerry
46 DE Robert Ayers
77 CB Dominique Johnson
108 S Rashad Johnson (that was funny that he was my top guy too).
144 WR Mike Thomas (well I suppose we could use a KR/PR guy).
175 LB Lee Robinson
206 OL Robert Brewster

My biggest quandry was at #144. While Thomas was my top guy, I also had sights on Corvery Irvin (already had Jerry), JP Wilson, and the LB Jason Williams. I was not happy that I was not able to select a RB in this draft. Taking a look at UDFAs Kory Sheets, Javarris Williams, and Marlon Lucky would be the RBs I'd pursue. I would also take a look at DTs Ra'Shon Harris and Myron Pryor as run stuffers. Lastly, LB Kaluka Maiava would be targeted as a possible SAM and Special Teams guy.

I saw that draft yesterday and thought it was just about the worst mock I have seen yet. (Talking about thehuddlereports mock).

I wouldn't mind selecting a RB in the first, but I wouldn't want it to be Wells.

I like your results a lot better.

I like 4 of the original picks:

Wells
Butler
Johnson
Cano

Not so sure that this is the route I would go, but if we lost Dunta in free agency then I might go Butler in the second. I would certainly go Johnson in the 4th and Cano in the 7th.

If I were to try to change things up a bit and stick to my guns about Maclin I could have done this cherry picking:

15 WR/KR Jeremy Maclin
46 DE Robert Ayers
77 SAM LB Cody Brown
108 S Rashad Johnson
144 WILL LB Jason Williams
175 RB P.J. Hill
206 DT Darryl Richard

Then I could have looked to sign Robert Brewster and Lee Robinson as UDFAs.

Even though a few sites say otherwise, I think Kory Sheets gets drafted. He showed enough speed to get outside a couple of times in the Senior Bowl, even though one was called back for holding. He had 7 carries for 32 yds and a 61 yd kickoff return. He caught several checkdowns, but they were well-covered, so no yardage. I liked how he read his blocks and showed some acceleration off his cuts.

Charles Davis was doing his best job to help his agent all week. It's funny how everyone has their little "pet" players that they love, but everyone else is like, "huh?" when somebody talks about how good they will be as a Pro.

Shawn Nelson was also sold pretty well by Mayock and Davis during Senior Bowl week.

I'm just as guilty as anyone. Just to name a few.

LB Scott McKillop
QB John Parker Wilson
LB Jason Williams
LB Lee Robinson
FS CJ Spillman
LB Victor Butler
OG Andy Kemp
SS Keith Fitzhugh
DT Darryl Richard
OG Greg Isdaner
OG Robert Brewster
DT Myron Pryor
Herb Donaldson

You'll have to 'splain this to me, because I'm not familiar with your reference.

I sometimes like talking about guys besides the "usual suspects". It might be interesting for everyone to list their sleepers. It probably should be done in its own thread. Texan fans from different parts of the country should have a better familiarity with players in their region. The question is, can you be objective.

Charles Davis and Mike Mayock are analysts for the NFL Network. The network covered Senior Bowl practices. Every time Shawn Nelson caught a pass or blocked a LB, Davis and Mayock were just oohing and aahing about how this kid "flashed" all week. While Nelson reminds me of Marcedes Lewis, I thought that they were a little over the top in spotlighting him. My point was, every time that mentioned his name they stir up some buzz. Therefore, if he "climbs" up the draft board, he'll make more money and his agent will get paid more.
