Foster was tremendous. I thought he was a little gassed in the 4th quarter, but nothing like 30 carries to get one back into "football shape" in a hurry. Sounds like the hammy held up so that is good news... I was a little surprised they didn't let Obie carry more towards the end but I think Kubes left him (Foster) in due to his "veteran" status and trust that he would be less likely to fumble the ball. Sounds like Tate is going to be on the shelf for at least a week or two or three....
AJ - No report, yet, but I'm guessing he will be out 3-4 weeks. That wouldn't be the end of the world. When he first went down, I thought his season was over.... I'm a little flummoxed that Schaub isn't targeting KW, JJ and even Casey more at this point in the season but that's probably going to change with AJ out. Bryant Johnson should see more action till AJ gets back.... Jason Allen's hit on Heinz Ward was awesome. Someone ask Heinz Ward if the Texans are "soft". Allen led the team in tackles with 7. Cush and DeMeco had 6 and 4, respectively. Mario had 5 tackles with 2 sacks which are good numbers for a "linebacker". Manning also had 5 tackles. Barwin had 4 tackles and a sack. I thought is was kinda nice to see Bob McNair on the sideline near game's end with a smile on his face for a change.... Early line is Texans 7 pt favorites over Oakland.

I thought Mario did pretty good with his two sacks as well.
Special teams , our young punter Hartmann had some nice long 50 yard non-returnable punts, plus that last one downed on the 1 yd line by McCain and Brandon Harris. We were able to overcome lots of stupid penalties , but perhaps intensity had something to do with that, no excuses. I thought Kubiak called a pretty good game overall. Team is showing pretty good balance and patience , thus more maturity this year. Plus Kubiak demonstrated getting after the OL for all to see.

This only adds to what I have been saying about needing a true #2WR. Neither JJ nor Walter could do flip in crunch time.

and, maybe KW or JJ will step up and surprize when given a chance.
they were only thrown to one time each the second half, that isn't really their fault . I think both can catch the ball. JJ is pretty fast. not proven to be ready is fair enough said, but they both caught 50+ passes for 600 or so yards last year. KW has done that for several years. I suspect if you check stats, they don't drop near as many balls as some of the so-called no. 1 and big name no. 2 receivers. No one on any team practically is a replacement for AJ, he is exceptional. They have some pretty good young WR on IR and practice squad as well, let's see what happens there as well, if AJ isn't recovered in 2-3 weeks. And likely making sure we have a replacement sometime soon will be a priority, but maybe we have them already is a consideration, unproven.

We thoroughly outplayed another team yet only won by 7. Although the win was nice (I hate the Steelers so beating them is always good), I'm seeing a trend where we seem to outplay a squad, look up and see there's still a need to put them away.
I thought Foster wore down after the first 1-1/2 quarters other than the TD run. Of course, part of that was the o-line wearing down too and not opening the holes we saw early. We really need Ward back to give Foster more rest. Schaub misfired a lot in the second half. Yes, he avoided his patented WTF interception but he made his receivers have to make tough catches on easy throws. Phillips wisely dialed up the blitzes early and often, realizing the Steelers were vulnerable. Jason Allen, despite being beat several times, actually had good coverage several times and was the victim of back-shoulder completions he could do nothing about. Say what you want about "untimely penalties". Some of them were deserved but most of them seemed to be ones the Steelers would have gotten away with had the uniforms been switched. Then we'd be hearing CBS tell us what good "no calls' they were since they didn't impact the play. I'm sick of watching the refs bailing out the Steelers. Gold stars to the OL and DL. They truly won the game and dominated.

Schaub had no turnovers and was not sacked. He got the ball out when he needed to, and got rid of it when he needed to. When your defense is playing like it was Sunday, that is the most important thing a QB can do. Ask Tony Romo (or even Joe Flacco, the Ravens may not have paid for it, but I know there defense was not happy with him giving points away when they could have won by kneeling down on offense all night).
As for a #2 WR, we need one in one sense. We don't need a WR that is better than Walter, because few teams have 2 really good WRs. Especially teams with great TEs and RBs who catch it (look at SD). New Orleans is the same way. Multiple guys catching it. So I don't want some great #2 WR that is going to want the ball, and that Dennison and Kubs will feel pressure to get the ball to. I think that would actually hurt the offense (see the Cowboys for what happens when you have too many mouths to feed, you end up with too many passes called to try to get it to all of them). But we do need a WR who stretches the field a bit more and JJ doesn't cut it as the deep threat. We need a guy like Devery Henderson for the Saints. Not a great WR. Doesn't get that many balls. Doesn't complain about not getting balls. But is a big time deep threat and even with Colston out, he can stretch the field and scare an opposing Defense. I don't want to spend a 1st on a WR because then we need to justify drafting him and get him the ball. But a low 2nd or a 3rd on a guy who can fly would seem to be in order. Honestly it is a lot like Pittsburgh drafting Wallace a few years back. Holmes was there 1 and ward was still a good #2, but Wallace provided the things Ward didn't. He wasn't better than Ward, just different. They happened to hit the jackpot and have a replacement for when Holmes was gone. We have the same theory in how we view Walter and JJ, but I don't think JJ adds a true deep threat, just another guy. And I hope our horizontal passing game can get it done if AJ misses the next few weeks.

I don't understand the notion that JJ can't stretch the defense. IMO, that ought to be his greatest strength. I know some of you will say he can't stretch the defense if he can't catch the ball but, trust me, NO NFL defense is going to let somebody intentionally run behind their coverage, not even if it's Jim Abbott. Because NO NFL D-Coord is not going to blow their fuse if the secondary lets a speedster run behind them for a cheap touchdown.
