curious choice, but can't say i know anything about this guy

seemed like better choices out there but it does fill a need...and they are the scouts

IMO, this pick is right up Smith and Kubiak's alley as far as mid-to-late round picks. Relative unknown, good athlete, good attitude and work ethic guy with huge upside potential. They took a similar guy last year in Molden.

This must be the free safety pick, and it sounds like he has some ball skills. I think timing and instincts trump height when playing the FS position.

Don't forget our new "aggressive D" will need an aggressive safety.

Whew!.....Talk about out of left field. You will have to show me he is in the same category as Moulden last year. At least Moulden was on the radar.

I live in Albuquerque, and so have watched Glover Quin over the years, and we got a really solid player.

Hes a versatility guy, can play some FS and can play some corner. Lacks elite acceleration but is a good man corner. He has some serious ball skills and makes some great plays on the ball when it is in the air. He doesn't get burned but may have some trouble with some of the smaller faster receivers.

He's physical at the line of scrimmage and isn't afraid to throw his body around.

Sounds like a similar type of player (if not the same caliber) as Eugene Wilson was coming out of college - a player to groom.

Honestly he reminds me of Jacques Reeves, but a little more physical.

Mayock thinks he can play inside or outside and just said it was a good pick. That makes me breathe easier.

This is one reason I don't pay attention to fans 7 round mocks or lists on the internet, there are just too many players that we have never seen/heard of and it is impossible to attempt to evaluate and grade these later round guys.

I guess they're thinking CB. From the Texans' site:

"They told me I was coming in as a corner," Quin said of his conversations with Texans coaches. "I'm looking to play the nickel corner and just keep practicing and try to move into the starting lineup."

A native of Summit, Miss., Quin was honorable mention all-conference his first two seasons at New Mexico and was credited with two picks and 20 pass breakups. He began his career at Southwest Mississippi Junior College, redshirting his first season with a broken right arm.

"I think that you can always improve your defense with corners," general manager Rick Smith said on Wednesday before the draft. "I think you’ve got to take corners all the time. You look at the two drafts that I’ve run so far, and I’m going to always take corners because I don’t think you can have enough guys that can cover and run and hit and do all those things that we ask them to do."

I see the need, I guess he fits the bill given our last three years of drafting CB's. I am on the fence here. This isnt the make or break of the draft, but I was hoping to get more impact from this pick.

Okay, another lesser learned. I need to watch more West Coast football. This guy is pretty freakin talented in all phases of the game. He's got good man skills, keeps his eye on the ball when it's in the air, makes plays on the ball, and he tackles. I'm pretty excited to see what Bush can do with the talent we got in this draft. Quin should be able to play nickleback very early on and knock the snot out of slot guys.

I was watching this video again and noticed around 6:25 into it, he's making some pretty impressive tackles against Gartrell Jackson or is it Johnson? Anyway, the big RB who looks like Steve Jackson from Colorado St. I like what he brings to the defense along with Troy Nolan.

In the clip he looks to be playing alot of off man and seems to have good instincts and anticipation. I was listening to one of the pressers and Kubiak and Smith were talking about him playing nickle corner... but I think due to his physical style of play he could make for a pretty good free safety. We'll see how it all plays out but the transition could be a natural fit.

I think they are going to give him his shot at CB. However, once it becomes clear that he can't play there, they will move him to FS. If he can play CB, great, but a fall back to FS isn't all bad.

They are going to play him as the nickle. If it becomes clear that he can't play there, they may try him at FS. However, I'm a believer that he'll be a perfect fit right where they are going to put him (over the slot).

What does that mean for Bennett and Molden? Does that mean they're our fourth and fifth corners? Are they really giving a rookie the third spot right out of the draft? Or by "nickel corner" do they simply mean "not a starter."
