Default Division Odds

For those who are interested in enterainment purposes only stuff, another thread got me wondering what the Over/Under lines were/are for the AFC South. I found the following at a site that I "glance" at from time to time:

Indy - 10
Negative $ lines both ways (u/o)
TN - 9
Negative $ lines both ways (u/o)
HOU - 8.5
$ line is Positive for Over, Negative under
JAX - 8
$ line is Negative for Over, Positive under

What I get from this.....we SHOULD be in a rat race till the bitter end. We can't give away games we are supposed to win. The wise guys don't have much confidence in us going over 8.5, or they wouldn't have put a plus number on the money line. It is interesting (at least to me), that they actually are leaning on JAX to hit the over. Not sure where that logic comes from, but they don't have all those twinkling lights for nothing.

That might be from Schaub's recent injury. On weekly games, when the starting QB goes down (or might go down), it will greatly effect the point spread. The oddsmakers may put up a "NL" (no line) until they figure something out. When you see the point spread lingering on "NL" for most of the week, it's usually because some key compenent like the QB is questionable..

Vegas had the Texans @ 6.5 wins in 2007 and 7.5 wins in 2008. Of course, they covered both years with 8 win seasons. Last year, things didn't look so good when the Texans had a 3-7 record but the 5-1 finish put them "over"....

I'm a little nervous with how slow the Texans seem to start the season under Kubiak. I guess the real team will show up this weekend. We need to get off to a fast start for a change.

'Can we stop the run' is the question. If not, it's a loooong season. If the D truly contained Adrian Peterson after his first carry, and I think Bush made the correct adjustments, then we're gonna be just fine.

Put me down for winning the division.

The secondary also concerns me. Dunta will be back, but how long before he's up to snuff? Also Reeves is definitely out, so Bennet needs to really get it together. Affecting both the run and the pass in the deep secondary, is the play of the safeties. I think I would be more comfortable with Ferguson back there for the first couple, three games, rather than Dominique Barber.

CB Reeves says he is getting better, maybe return soon. He also says of Frank Bush's defense that it will be fast, smart, and violent. Well, that will be a change from years past!
