Iirc, this is in fact one of the signs of the apocalypse. I think it falls somewhere between famine and pestilence.

One thing I absolutely HATE is the ads on the front of soccer jerseys. I can live with a small patch, but I hope the NFL never goes any further down that road. It may be an easy source of quick revenue, but I think it cheapens the team's brand image. I was Academy the other day and was looking at Dynamo shirts....I refused to buy one because they all had Amigo Energy on them.

From a business perspecitve I can understand it. From a fan perspecitve I say no. I dont want to see advertising on the field nor do I want to wear it when I slap my #90 Jersey on every Sunday, even if it is a little patch.

"It's a rare opportunity for somebody to gain massive exposure for their brand"
Say what??? Off a PRACTICE jersey? Maybe if your team is the ESPN Cowpies or if the team is on NFLN Hard Knocks, but I doubt advertising on a Texans jersey will get much wide-spread exposure. Even locally with the crappy coverage in this town. |

This doesn't really bother me too much, as long as they're careful who they sell the space to. It's a practice jersey, for pete's sake.
As for the soccer jerseys, I just wish they'd make better choices as to who they let buy those spots. The dynamo have pretty cool looking kits, if you ask me, minus that stupid amigo energy logo. Thankfully I bought my orange jersey in the first season, so there's no title sponsor. My white one has the logo, unfortunately. I had the opportunity to visit argentina about 10 years ago, back when boca's title sponsor was Quilmes, which is a fantastic argentine beer. That jersey is awesome. I wear it all the time. I wasn't really into argentine soccer at the time, but when I came back I started watching. Their biggest rival is river plate, and ironically I'm way more of a river plate fan. I didn't know the difference, and the shopkeeper was obviously a river plate fan who just wanted to get rid of his boca jerseys, so I was able to get a much better price on it. still want a river jersey, though that's neither here nor there. Next time you're at ginger man, give Quilmes a go. It's kinda similar to bud light, but with WAY more flavor. It's good. |
