You know what's missing from the list of UDFA's? A QB. Are the Texans really entering camp with just three QBs ...with one of them named Alex Brink?
Don't mean to diss on Brink too bad, maybe he's improved from last summer, but I'm really surprised there isn't another arm on the roster. Uhh... James Casey, loosen up? ![]() |

there is always some QB's floating around. Besides Kubiak has shown a tendency to not carry 3 QB's anyway. If Brink doesn't cut it he'll just find some young player with PS eligibility left.

I'm guessing we sign David Johnson of Tulsa or Jason Boltus from Hartwick.
Browns got - Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech to compete with Brady Quinn

Three QBs does seem a little light from the standpoint of having multiple offensive groups running plus a scout team. If one of the three needs to miss a practice for whatever reason it could cut down on the reps the entire offense gets. Seems like they'd want another arm for camp even if it's not someone in whom they have much long-term interest.

Jake Plummer ought to be tanned, rested, and ready right about now.
![]() In all seriousness though... I would consider having the Snake's phone number handy. He paid back a portion of his signing bonus to the Bucs. I'm not sure whether that still entitles them to his rights, but I can't imagine the Bucs having much interest in him anyway (nor Jake in Tampa). Plummer is only like 34 years old, and while it has been more than two years since he has thrown a football professionally, I'd have a hard time believing he would have much trouble re-learning Kubiak's offense. Looks like another vet QB could be added if the Texans are interested in a different former Bronco...

IIRC Griese had trouble handling the post Elway expectations, seems he had a drinking problem, and Shanahan/Kubiak cut ties with him and never looked back. Some part of that story was never told.

Yeah, I think you have a valid point, but I'm not sure the Smith/Kubiak combo had a real shot at Griese before now without making a trade, as the Bucs did with the Bears.
Previously, they sold the farm to acquire Schaub and already had a pre-Rosencopter Rosenfels under contract from the time when David Carr still wore #8. The Broncos cut Griese in favor of Jake Plummer like six years ago. They are obviously committed to Schaub and hopeful with Dan Orlovsky, so I can imagine they aren't falling over themselves to go after an aging vet. But should they fear an injury, I just wonder how handy the phone numbers are for Plummer and now Griese. And as Warren more astutely noted for me in an earlier post, someone still ought to be brought in before training camp to help keep arms fresh ...though maybe with the elimination of two-a-days this summer, this is less of a concern? |
