does anyone know anything about the rockets draft? i think it's on june 5th, but that's about it. i don't even know where they select although i can probably guess it's mid-late 20's....
what kind of player would you go after? a back up center? a decent backup 2 or 3 man behind battier and mcgrady? trade mcgrady, head, scola or landry and the rockets pick for the #1 pick and kurt heinrich? #2 pick? i'm not proposing just throwing the general question out.... ok so i am...hahaha...i WOULD see if the bulls are interested in dealing ben gordon and/or kurt heinrich for mcgrady and combo. i doubt the pick could be involved, but i'd be willing to include scola or landry for a shot at beasley or even rose. if nothing can be resolved i think i'm going to look at a backup 2 or 3 to bolster the bench. head is so inconsistent shooting and has terrible handles, steve francis is done, who else even plays there for us? novak shoots the lights out but i guess is weak on defense (though i never saw him getting burned repeatedly) mike harris is a great energy man, though brings little else. another big to spell yao would be great, and i certainly won't complain or be surprised with it, but i think with our coach and current makeup...they are looking for speedy guys. love yao, but as soon as he steps off the floor i would love to see a running, gunning bench. i think a team that comes with a great half-court game (with yao/mcgrady) and hits its bench flying (brooks, draft pick 2 or 3, landry, scola, harris so on) would be awfully tough to adjust to mid-game. only top notch defenses would be able to contain such a wide barrage of attack, and who knows how that defense would respond on their offensive side? plus, having another capable scorer off the bench only cements guys like hayes, harris, woods, mutombo (the defense) in the team which i think is great. i'm alright with the balance of O and D in the lineup as long as there IS balance.

Tonight.
I like Chalmers and Hickson if the Rockets stay at 25 provided someone like CDR isn't there. Courtney Lee also sounds like a good pick, but I haven't seen him. |

they also took a steve novak clone (2nd round) in maarty leunen and plan to send him overseas. they pretty much said he's a steve novak clone. i think this makes the rockets better. another athletic big, and a backup for battier and mcgrady who looks pretty promising from where i sit.

I don't know much about Green, but he sounds like that 2/3 combo who can give McGrady or Battier a rest without losing as much size. Supposed to be very similar to Rudy Gay...so it at least makes sense.
Dorsey is one of the few guys outside of the big 12 (or who plays for Lamar) that i actually know something about. I like him a lot as that tough guy, high energy, defensive specialist, rebounder role. I know he is supposed to be long, but I don't know if he will be able to really fill in at C when Yao's getting a break. That leaves us with a logjam at the 4 spot. IF he's good enough to make the team (2nd rounders don't get guaranteed deals) then someone has to go. It's probably Hayes, but he sounds an awful lot like Landry....and Landry might be bring more in a trade than the chuck wagon. I don't think they are going to move Landry, but I think that possibility is there. I have a feeling Mr. Morey still has some wheeling and dealing left to do...he just seems like that kind of guy.

i get the same feeling about morey as you papabear. he does give off that kind of vibe in interviews. if anyone gets traded though i think it will probably be one of the guards not named tracy mcgrady.

that is what I meant. If McGrady went out most of the time we went with Luther Head. Green gives us the size to match up with the bigger gaurds and the athleticism to stay with quicker SF in the league.

Hayes makes the most sense as the one to go. If you were picking between Hayes and Dorsey, Dorsey wins hands down. Hayes does have a decent little jump hook, he just couldn't make lay-ups. I hate to even think about his free throws. I've always looked at it this way. A guy who shoots free throws that poorly, and who is that limited offensively should not be able to stick on an NBA team...much less get an extension. Hayes did, and that just tells you how good he is defensively. I would still take Dorsey without a second thought if it was just a straight comparison. The difference may turn out to be whould you rather have: Scola, Landry, and Dorsey or Scola, Dorsey, Hayes, and whatever we could get for Landry and one of those spare guards you mentioned. You don't really need two back-ups at the same position who fill the same role. Hayes doesn't have much trade value. Landry as part of a bigger package might get someone who could help right away. I'm not necessarily advocating this. I love Landry. He might have become my favorite player last year. I just see some logic to a move like this. Of course Morey might not be done, and Dorsey could be part of another trade before this weeks over. Really, I'm just pointing out options.

The NBA draft is so hard to follow because you cannot keep up with the trades. I fell asleep in the second round and woke up this AM and we had Dorsey and Green.
I love Green. He has the skill set to be an excellent player once he matures and understands what is a good shot. Dorsey is a beast. I am so freakin tired of being punked by Utah with Milsap, Okur and Boozer. This guy is a badass with some fire. He can finish better in traffic better than anyone we have. He will take it to the rim and dunk them with the ball. If It does not work out, send him to Reliant Park and introduce him to coach Kubiak.

I like the picks too. Also, like you, I am tired of Utah beating us up, and this seems like a guy who isn't going to be beaten up. Did you hear him respond when they asked him about being an enforcer......No hesitation. "Ray Lewis with a basketball". He has a great personality as well.

a pass! Quote:
i would have to see the deal for landry or dorsey (plus whoever else) before i could make a judgement call on it. i just think the position situations of our 4's, yao being the only real 5, and our guards any move taking away a big that doesn't add a big is a lateral move. on top of that, i think any move that doesn't involve mcgrady or yao is probably going to end up with insignificant improvements. i wonder what battier/landry could bring in?
