Texans coaches are excited about the progress that sixth-round draft pick Dominique Barber made at the end of last season, but Bush said that Ferguson will “absolutely” have a chance to compete for starting duties at strong safety. Bush and his staff like Ferguson's smarts, grasp of the defense and communication skills – especially with younger players.

Nick and Eugene formed our combo at that position since the team began. I bet it is a vet minimum type deal and that is fine by me.

If he is not a starter, then he will be a good special teams player. Unfortunate that he was the guy who collided with Harry Williams last year.

Sounds like this is a one-year, $800k contract.

I'm thinking this is probably a vet min deal though, which would mean that the base is $745k with a $50k bonus (total of $795k plus standard workout bonuses), which would equate to a cap figure of $510k (plus workouts).
