This is sad news to me om a couple of levels. 1st off I was lucky to have met him a few times and hang out at the bar, he was always great guy, not the prima donna some pitchers are.

2nd to those to young to remember this guy was the 2nd best closer in baseball for almost a decade, Lee Smith being the best, when he came in the game from 1980 thru 1986, you had won. His fork ball was nasty.

3rd this is the 3rd person from the 1980 Astros pitching staff to pass. A 1/3 of the staff is gone already, and that is much to soon for these guys are all to young.

RIP Dave Smith, may the surf always be up for you now.
