Default College guys to watch

I only saw a few moments of the game but East Carolina linebacker Quentin Cotton had an INT and just missed a 2nd one to seal the game.

It was odd watching Michgan without Henne.

Also Maryland has a couple stud RBs, and thier OL looked very solid.

PK, do you feel as I do, that we are a little unfulfilled going into this NFL season. Wish there was another Draft coming up we could delve into (I mean this year!).

Yes I do think we have a some more holes to fill, but I knew that going into the draft last year.

I am upset with the drafting of the QB in the 7th and the passing on Aldridge. No he was not the answer but he could have been a piece of the puzzle, which the cut QB is not going to be.

We need to try to gather as many picks as we can for next year, which currently is not as deep as the last one.

I'm a little upset also, but not sure Aldridge would see the field. I think Slaton and Taylor would be ahead of him on the depth chart.

He would be an upgrade to Walker. He might have made the team and been in the mix to get carries when Green went down. That is more than we will get from the cut QB.

what about getting a DE in the 7th? i was more than a little surprised it wasn't that or an OLB instead of brink. tommy blake is the only name i can remember now but it's not like QB was a pressing issue.

Seeing that Blake has not been signed by anyone tells me he is not ready. I would take a shot on him, give him the work he needs, IR him and let see what we have next season.

well, blake was the only one i could still remember being around in the 7th.

but regardless of who, at least take positions that are filling needs. we have a great backup QB already...unless sage thinks he's actually going to start anywhere next year...

The thing I am upset about is not so much the Draft, as we signed a big free agent DE in Colvin, and then he didn't work out! I thought with his signing we had closed the biggest hole left when we didn't go for a DE somewhere in the Draft. Now we are back where we were. Does Kubiak and Richard Smith think we have someone already on the roster that is going to step up and deliver that passrush we are (have been) lacking? They will have to show me.

What if we didn't take Brown? Then we're going into the season with a gimpy Salaam and....not much else IMO. Molden and Slaton both look like they are going to help fill some holes. Sure they could have gone DE instead of some of the later round picks they did take, but there has to be somewhere there they like better than who we took, and the chances of Colvin working out were probably better than any late round pick we could have taken. They tried several different people out at DE. None of them worked out. It's not like they ignored it.

Just drafting a position doesn't solve the problem. If the last draft class lives up to their potential then we'll have a lot less holes to fill.

Yes, I know Pappabear, and I have been thinking along those lines. With the problems we have been having at RB, the thought also occurs to me that we let Mendenhall slide. We will shortly find out if that was a mistake or not.

While I understand that we didn't have a net big enough to get all the help we needed, I am a little dissapointed that we didn't get at least one or two more big fish. And the Colvin fiasco was just one of them.

want to add a RB from Iowa, Green. He is a bowling ball type runner. Has some wiggle along with inside power. Not sure of his speed.

Another guy I like is the TE from Mizzou. He is a receiver type, but what a receiver.

I'll have my eye on Mays for USC tonight... I actually heard a comparison to Ronnie Lott; now that some praise. I haven't seen the kid but he's got good measurables (6'3" 225), don't know about his speed though. He's described as "athletic" so I'd hope he has some speed. I also think he's a Junior.

I think we need a safety but I wouldn't look in the first round for one unless they were exceptionally better than the norm. I'd like to see if this guy fits that description.

Mays is projected by some to be a high 1st rounder, he and Moore are the preseason top safeties.
