Default Draft: Lockout Stay Denial

It will be very interesting to see what the NFL decides today now that their motion for a Stay has been denied. I don't really expect much to happen, but if they open up active player trading, it would make the draft a whole lot more interesting. I could see Philly trading Kolb and jumping way up the board. Unless the NFL owners do a wink-nod agreement that no active player deals will be made (I presume VERY illegal at this point), this could be a very active trading atmosphere. I could see some owners getting extremely nervous with no CBA in sight and wanting to move around some players/contracts. But then again, probably nothing will happen. We couldn't have THAT much fun in this off-season from hell!

What if FA opens up Monday instead of today before the Draft ? How much did Kolbs value drop over the weekend, in other words he might have got 15 or 20 million from a team like AZ or Tenn who instead will be paying those big bucks to their first round QB they take tonight because they couldn't work out a deal with Philly for Kolb before the Draft ? And how obvious would Kolb be as the plaintiff in a lawsuit vs the NFL for not being able to get that deal done today before his value dropped ?

I think the league undermines their own legal position if they allow player trades during the draft.

But if anyone is willing to skirt the league's wishes, look for the Raiders or Cowboys to be the ones who get it started. And if any one player gets traded, my bet is Vince Young for a seventh - to the Raiders.

I think the question they are trying to figure out, is whether or not they can stop it from happening. Technically, (and believe me, I'm no lawyer), the league year should begin immediately, according to the court. If they don't do something, they could be in contempt.

Again, I'm no lawyer, but I play one on TV
- And I read PFT......alot....

The owners have been playing a horrible game of poker thus far. I'm not a lawyer either, but it appears to me, that if they don't open up players trades and FA today, they ARE in contempt of the court order and open themsleves up to even more lawsuits. Now, it's hard to say whether Player X (Kolb, for example) would have been traded or Player Y (any FA) would have been signed, but you'd think SOME trades or FA signings would have taken place and I think the NFLPA could argue that as a loss or damages to the players.
