Default Broncos Fire Shanahan!

Weak finish dooms Mike Shanahan

Of course he gets a look at one of the other openings, right? If not who falls out? Which players are released? Which coaches? Front Office types?

I was wondering how long he could go on almost being a great team.

I hereby proclaim Shanny an early candidate to replace HC Wade Phillips with the Cowgirls.

I'm sure some folks will suggest Shanahan would fit with the Texas due to the family connections and the Bronco connections but there is a problem with that idea. The offense is already made in the Broncos image and is functioning about as well as the parts they have. Shanny was canned because his defense sucked and the players he kept bringing in weren't helping much. After firing a handful of D-Coords (including Ray Rhodes), Shanny ran out of sacrificial lambs.

Houston's problems are a) defense and b) turnovers. Shanny has already proven he can't do anything about a) and probably can do little to help b).

Secondly, Shanahan still has a couple of years left on his contract so he does not need to hurry back into the coaching ranks unless it's a really good deal. Best case scenario for us is that he may become an unpaid consultant for his son and design a few new wrinkles to take advantage of our offensive talent pool.
