The 3rd preseason game takes place this Sunday @ 3pm CST at NRG Stadium. Last preseason game at NRG before the Texans have a quick turnaround and head to Dallas the next Thursday to complete the preseason. This Sunday's game will be shown on FOX (not sure about channel 13).
In the world according to BOB, preseason, regular season and playoffs are three separate animals.....i.e. the third preseason game is just another preseason game - more player evaluation.... It's coming down to nut-cracking time and there always seems to be some surprise cuts every year. This year should be no different, in fact, there's probably several that will get cut by the Texans and immediately get picked up by another team.... Current line is Pickem or Texans by 1. |

Two early reductions to 90 man roster
First Alex Carrington already released after one practice game. Second , Nick Martin, underwent season ending ankle surgery it appears. So Greg Manz will be our center , most likely going into the season. |

We can't seem to catch a break...no Duane for a while and now Nick Martin done for the season...I don't know how we run the ball...let alone stay up right long enough to throw it deep....

While the Texans play @ 3pm on FOX, at noon San Diego visits Minnesota in their new stadium also on FOX. I imagine FOX will spend a little time checking out the new stadium and it might be worth a look - seems to be a very impressive building.....
Same day, later in the evening, NBC will be doing a SNF game with Cincinnati visiting Jacksonville. I suppose the networks are going through their own preseason readiness.............. |

Did Chris Myers ever sign elsewhere? I'm bummed that Martin is already done for the season.
This is the night we should see more than just a drive or two from Osweiler against first-teamers so we can evaluate where he is in this offense. He may have to be in run-for-your-life mode if the OL can't get healthy. |

Have to see what Mancz can do at C , both OT still the backup as well.
I'm gonna go to the game with a few friends. Starts at 3:25 now. Shows how preseason doesn't mean much other than trying to get best 53. Arizona is 0-2 and Texans are 2-0, but Arizona picked by many to go to Superbowl. |

Beauty of a defensive play by John Simon. Tipped the pass, INT and took it into the endzone....
Texans 17, Cardinals 7 14:08 left in the half. |

Fuller sure can fly. We haven't had a true speed guy like that in Houston since Corey Bradford. The only problem with his 2 TD first half is that he could have had 3 without the drop.

We're not generating a furious pass rush and we allow too many yards on the ground. But those are small nits in the greater scheme of things.
The special teams are the best I have ever seen this team field. |

Halftime:
Texans 31, Cardinals 10 1st downs: Texans 10, Cards 14 Total yards: Texans 218, Cards 236 Time of possession: Texans 11:53, Cards 18:07 Turnovers: Texans 0, Cards 2 Nothing like a quick strike offense and a turnover-forcing defense.... too bad it's not a regular season game.... |

I don't know what the Texans need to get a running game going beyond a healthy OL but I'm pretty sure Alfred Blue will not figure into it.

Final Score: Texans 34, Cardinals 24
Texans hang on for the win but lose badly in many offensive categories. Winning the turnover battle 5-1 will certainly even things up..... Overall, good job.... Onto Dallas...... |

First half was a joy to watch. Can't find myself saying that too often.
Osweiler still holds the ball a bit too long, but I doubt this is a long-term problem and hopefully just symptomatic of being in a new offense. He had a couple really nice throws today. Savage looked better with the better players around him. He is developing into a premium backup. Not sure his ceiling is all that high, but he will keep a good offense moving. Alfred's probably a really great guy (& willing ST contributor), but his time on this team should be nearing its end. Ervin & Hunt are still very appealing options to me. Nuk breaking ankles - er, non-contact ACLs - always entertaining though sorry it was a devastating blow for the DB. Saw the AZ media claiming the turf had something to do with that poor injury. Uh, no. For a rookie, Fuller is rather impressive. He is single-handedly changing the dynamic of the offense and has proven his is more than a deep fly threat. He's run a couple outstanding routes. And the occasional drop doesn't bother me given the threat he is on every other down. BMiller and Strong are serving terrific complementary roles, too. The Texans wheeled out the RB a couple times too like they would with Foster, and this has possibilities as well. Should Anderson develop into a seambuster, this passing offense could easily be the best we've seen in 15 years. OL blew a big assignment, and considering who's on it right now I suppose lapses aren't too surprising. Running lanes were tough to come by today, but that's a pretty solid defense (albeit missing PPeterson) to face. Defense obviously misses Watt. I was happy at how well Clowney did though, especially vs. the run. Seemed Clowney was doubled and a couple times triple-teamed. Got a feeling the Cards gameplanned that just to ensure their guys stayed healthy. Couple missed tackles but the first half D was hitting hard and flying all around today. Whatever ailed Lechler at the end of last season is now a distant memory. |

The speed is obvious, and Osweiller throws the deep ball much better than he does anything else on a football field. We've never had that element, and it should open things up a ton and give the playcallers a huge variety of options since the defense has to cover the length of the field on ever play.

It is nice to see the medium and long passing game. Os and the receivers doing well with the speed.
Running game, I don't see any RB doing very good, some credit to OL and opposition defense on that. Hard to evaluate in the games so far. No rhythm possible. Some tough cuts starting tomorrow at 4 pm. I enjoyed going to the game. Some observations http://m.houstontexans.com/s/30862/e...6-e1a6513a7e7d Last edited by Nconroe; 08-29-2016 at 12:41 PM. |
