Here is a fairly non sugar coated review of Day 1 of minicamp. Offense behind defense.

A closer look at day one of Houston Texans Mandatory Mini-Camp.

Jadeveon Clowney missed practice after head coach, Bill O’Brien, sent him home from practice with the flu.

Brock Osweiler continues to learn in the offense and patience might be the key word regarding him. Practices are especially tough given the level at which the Texans defense is playing, with so many returning players. Osweiler is dealing with an aggressive defensive line that is trying to bat passes and an entire defense that understands where their help is at in coverage. Osweiler looks much better in red zone work and is able to pick his spots to get the ball into the end zone. He is continuing to learn routes and how his receivers work on the field. Expectations should still be tempered with the process continuing heading to week one, but there are more positives than negatives despite the defense making life tough for the Osweiler led offense.
Newly-claimed defensive back, Terrance Mitchell, showed up to his first day with the Texans and he will have a chance to make the roster. He has the versatility to play cornerback and safety and now he is on a crash course over the next three days to learn the defense before the extended break. He worked with special teams and it looks like he is set to be a factor when training camp begins.
It continues to be the "A.J. Bouye Show" at cornerback and his coverage consistently stands out. With another interception on the day, Bouye has a good feel for when to break on the football. Bouye’s strong start to practices over the past month might be attributable to him finally entering the off season healthy for the first time since arriving his rookie year. Bouye is getting majority of the reps on the field with Johnathan Joseph, Charles James II, and Kevin Johnson all out, rehabbing injuries from the off-season.
Benardrick McKinney and John Simon are making the linebacker group look solid and them working together last season allows the duo to make life tough for the opposing offensive line.. The offensive line is still trying to find the right combination in pass protection, especially working in unison with the running backs and tight ends. It was an up and down day for the offensive line and the defense harassed Osweiler in his drop backs.
