Default Stockpiling Offensive Playmakers

As we get closer to a possible playoff game I started looking at our roster for possible playoff dark horses. I am not of the belief that you have to have stars at every position, but rather strategically selected skilled players. Specifically, I am referring to the offense. Besides DHOP we cannot depend on anyone on our offense to be consistent.

With that said, if that is the case then you have to have a specific set of skilled players. However, the coach has to be able to put them in successful situations and not expect them to do more than they have PROVEN they can do.

A few names jump out as potential home run hitters...none of which have much tape to scheme against...

Akeem Hunt - blazing speed and quickness...just waiting to be in the right situation
BJ Daniels - Man of many talents...curious how well he can throw....
J. Strong - starting to come on but has major upside...With very few opportunities....

Anybody else jump out?

Agree...Disagree?

Would be nice if Hoyer forgot he was Hoyer for a month or so.

That'd be one for me, that would trump all.

The three guys that you mention have hidden upside, or at least they're the three guys we haven't seen enough of to know that they're basically playing at their ceiling. Even if the Texans had Tom Brady playing for them next year I don't see how any of the tight ends is ever going to amount to anything. (Although Brady does make Keyshawn Martin almost look like an NFL player so who knows.) The talent level of the other three running backs is modest at best. Although Blue seems to be using his strength more and better than he was earlier in the year. He may yet have a role on a good team as a punishing back, which I consider extremely important to have and to use.

Since JJ's not playing tight end one handed I guess the only other guy with hidden offensive upside would have to be Charles James. And apparently his upside will remain hidden.

I do hope Strong doesn't turn out to be another Devier Posey, a guy who looks for all the world like a wide receiver but for whatever reason just can't get on the field. Strong is an exciting prospect because he gets separation and seems to have good instincts with the ball. Size, speed. I suppose he just needs to learn the playbook.

Blue is a great guy to have on your roster. He does about 10 things well. He just has no business being a lead back. He'd be a great success story and contributor as a 6th round pick if Foster was healthy the last few years. For a backup RB he is awesome on special teams, he catches it well, he runs ok, he's stayed healthy, he has a little power and helps close out games when we have a lead and the opposing defense is tired. Just don't ever make plans around him and don't pay him more than a rookie wage.

Strong should have been playing all year, or at least the last 8 weeks.

Daniels, I thought, looked just like a recently acquired guy who got thrown into the cauldron. Totally understandable. He has the ability to add the passing game into the wildcat (or whatever they're calling it this week) which should keep the LB's and DB's guessing. While it would be easy to say that opposing teams had/have figured out the Texan "wildcat", it's still all about the linemen doing there job to make any formation work...

So, if the Texans want to continue to integrate the Daniels-led wildcat, he'll need some more reps and since there's only one game left in the regular season, that means this Sunday.

I thought chuck's speculation of playing the Jag game like preseason game #3 is right on.... Give Hoyer a half, give Weeden a half, sprinkle in the wildcat (Daniels) throughout and hope that's enough to get the W...
