Default Ray Rice a Possibility?

The Texans have Arian Foster on the shelf now for half a season. Would the Texans consider a well-rested Ray Rice as a short-term replacement? Getting a deal that fits the cap may be a challenge but he's both a good runner and good receiver who has experience with carrying the load.

Should they and would they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Doesn't fit the choir boy mentality, but would definitely serve a need.

This is a truly dumb post Bob (and I promise I am talking about this specific post and not trying to insult you).

He was terrible the last time he played in the NFL....TWO YEARS AGO!

We are not talking about a position with a scarcity of talent like edge rusher. Aldon Smith will get another chance because not many guys can go get the QB. But tons of guys can do what Rice used to be able to do. There are veteran guys without his baggage available, plus tons of young guys.

Rice averaged 3.1 ypc in 2013. He was already losing his job to Bernard Pierce in 2014 before the assault. Then Pierce lost his job to our former 3rd stringer Forsett. Pierce was later dumped by Buffalo and will fight for a roster spot in Jacksonville. That is the life of a RB. There is always a crowd of guys waiting to step in and replace you.

Rice's career would probably be about over without the baggage. There is no way we should go near him in football terms, even ignoring his off field issues.

I see your point. He had four superb years before 2013 so there are questions if 2013 was the beginning of the end or if there were other factors (injuries to the line, injuries to himself, etc.). Plus the concern over a year layoff also works both ways - is he better for not punishing his body last year or is he now not in shape to take a hit.

Then there's the PR factor but, you know, he's said he's sorry in a number of different ways and sat out his suspension. Folks like giving people a second chance if they seem to have learned from their mistake.

Besides, Chuck would say my harangues about lefthanded QBs are worse than this idea.

I was just reading through this thread trying to formulate a way I could politely say once again that you are a dumbass and then this.

Yes.

You were so reasonable in your response that I will concede the possibility that maybe a bunch of stuff just went wrong on all 211 carries in 2013 and he really was still good, and not a 3 ypc back (gracious of me I know). But I still say RB is a position overflowing with talent and because of that there is no reason to even bring him in for a tryout.

But either way I am excited that next week we will all be discussing actual Texans playing actual football on an actual field.

For my dumb opinion, I think we are fine with the four RB already in camp. Not worried about whatever time Foster misses, but will be glad when he comes back.

And, we will start to see them in preseason games soon to be sure.

I would be fine if some other team gives Ray Rice a chance .
