I actually think that David could still do a fairly good job on a team which has good protection and a solid running game. He can operate pretty well in the short passing game. It's when he has to hold on to the ball long enough for long routes to develop that he starts melting down. If there is any kind of rush at all, he completely loses his downfield focus. Then bad things start to happen.

David actually had a fairly decent season about four years ago or so. If I remember correctly, we had a pretty solid running game that year. I've never seen Simms look like he could play well enough to come close to that performance. In all my years watching football, I don't think I've ever seen a QB get more passes batted down than Simms does. Which is pretty strange, considering how many QB guys are shorter than him. I just don't think he's football smart. I don't think he has ever relaxed enough in games to start enjoying himself and learning how to maximize his talents.
