I feel like this team is not currently good enough to beat the Ravens, Steelers or the Patriots so I'm hoping that putting sixty minutes on tape that demonstrates exactly why they're not and then giving them what amounts to an immediate opportunity to go out and correct the many mistakes they'll see will end up being a benefit.

Maybe this ugly loss will snap them out of their reverie. If what we saw today is really, ultimately who they are then we'll experience a loss in week one against the Jets or whoever and reconvene next year.

All that said, Cam Newton is no joke. I'll take playing against Luck for the next decade rather than trying to play that guy.

When you said it was the best thing that could happen I just jumped to conclusions.

Ya, I said "might be the best thing" meaning, if they learn from it and get better, then it's good for everyone.

But it's never the best thing to lose. It might be a learning experience, but nothing says a team can't learn after a win. The whole goal is to win and if you learn so you can win later, all you've done is taken the long route to where you already would have been, winning.

I hope we come back better and more focused but I am
Not going to spin it like its good we played like crap today.

Yes, they did play like crap today. But, again, who is spinning it that playing like crap is a good thing? Play like crap and you lose.

And the crap play today gives the coaches a chance to light a backside fire that COULD help in the playoffs. Bet this takes a little starch out of their shirts and they play better Thursday.

Well, the chicken salad/applesauce outlook is that, right now, I'd rather have a crappy loss than a win with another major injury.

Jeremy Shockey questions the Texans' patriotism...
Quote:
Shockey says he saw "about 10 players" who didn't do the traditional gesture when the anthem is played, and he told some of them how he felt during Carolina's 28-13 victory.

"I was pretty upset in the way they weren't showing respect to America during the national anthem," Shockey said. "This is America and you should at least give respect to America."

TJ was bound to have a game like this. I don't think anyone should be shocked by it. Hell, even Schaub was prone to have a WTF moment or 2 each game. What's shocking to me is our D did nothing when it absolutely had to to stop the Panthers when they knew exactly what was coming. In addition, our RBs have got to stop giving up costly fumbles at the most inopportune times.

The only 'good' thing you can hope for out of this game is TJ continuing to learn and Foster/Tate being reminded to hold on to the damn ball. Nothing good came out of it defensively. These guys were embarrassed by the Panthers trick plays and misdirection and basically got manhandled with the exception of the 3rd Qtr. If anything, it shows that the interim DC might be in over his head and they need Wade back ASAP.

They were just trying not to make Houston's sizable illegal alien population feel less uncomfortable. We know how playing our anthem and saluting our flag upsets some of them.

You might be right because the way things are going it may soon be politically incorrect to demonstrate patriotic sentiments when the national anthem is played, unless of course it's the Mexican national anthem.

I'm wondering if T.J. is hurt more than the team is telling. He was listed as probable for the game with a right elbow injury. Not sure what the injury is, but, to me, the entire game plan looked like a team trying to cover up a QB who's arm isn't right. Very run heavy with virtually no strikes downfield.

You might be on to something because we saw him throw the ball downfield not just to Andre but to Jacoby. The long-ball to Jacoby was the first play of the Cinci game which he dropped. And I know Andre was quoted as saying that TJ actually had a preference for throwing the deep ball.

Might be that he just has a sore arm from the increased reps he's seeing in practice and in games. I didn't notice any less zip on the ball. As for the run, Carolina came into the game with one of the worst run defenses in the league, so I don't find it too shocking that they went with a heavy dose of Foster and Tate. The run was working for the most part. Wish they would've used the run more in the redzone.

Hell, it wasn't any big mystery, Carolina's gameplan was to shut down the run on 1st & second down, and then drop the LB'ers way back in zone on 3rd down, so they could trap T.J. Terrible into throwing into coverage. And he obliged them bigtime! What pissed me off was that Kubiak should have known this was going to happen, and do his own gameplanning accordingly. Kubiak says it wasn't a trap game, but you can make your own conclusions.

You realize we had 358 yds offense to 318 for Carolina. About 150 yds on ground, but due to turovers giving up field position we were playing from behind.

Then 3rd down conversions weren't happening to stop our scoring chances

Seven wins in a row is a pretty good accomplishment.

I might be wrong but I think we had like 36 passes to 25 runs so we didn't really have two runs for one pass.

Another part of problem was penalties making it long distance on third down including that one weird play where Walters got knocked out of bounds then caught the ball for first down on 10 that got brought back for a 5 yard penalty on about 45.

Then while it was a bad day for TJ perhaps, we are 3 wins out of 4 games without Schaub. I guess Chicago and Colts would love that with their backup QB.
