Default Harris to be a Reserve Safety?

Kubiak mentioned during this during his presser:

@HoustonTexans: Kubiak: Troy Nolan starts in place of Manning. Torri Williams might come up from practice squad. Brandon Harris might play safety.

Interesting......

He also stated that Harris hasn't seen the field because there was a "crowd" at CB....WOW.

so, if Torri Williams comes up, someone else has to go back to practice squad?

I like the idea of getting to see what Brandon Harris can do.

Don't mind it. I wonder why it is not Jackson being tried at Safety though. I thought he might benefit from the switch before the injury to manning. He is a little slow and has poor ball skills at CB. He also struggles in man coverage. Letting him play with his eyes on the QB at safety might really help him, and he is a very good tackler.

Kubiak mentioned/was asked that as well, and his response was that they didn't want to change two positions to compensate for 1. They are happy with the play @ CB.

Someone needs to get their ego out of the way and realize Jackson is our 4th best CB (or 5th, I haven't seen enough of Brandon Harris to tell at this point).

GMs hate admitting mistakes though, so they try to force it to work long after it is clear it won't. It is like Amobi Okoye part 2. These guys screw up a pick and then compound it by refusing to admit it.

Have notice what Okoye has done in Chicago? It was not the player, it was drafting a player good at one thing and not letting him do it and asking him to do things he was not good at.

They asked him to read and react, and he is a shot the gap guy.

I saw him on the field the other day but had not seen whether he has played well or not.

I think Barber and Manning both injured and need four safeties ready to go, so Keo is third and then Harris likely to be fourth safety

Saw reports that we re-signed Quentin Demps as well, pending a physical.

Trindon Holiday was released to make a spot.
- that didn't last long.....

I think it is Kubiak that is letting his ego get in the way of seeing that K Jackson can't cover and should be replaced. It should have been Harris to CB & KJ to reserve safety.

Hope Manning heals up and gets back real quick.

Easy to point the finger at Kubiak, but based on some of the comments that he has made, I'm thinking he's letting Wade and Vance Joeseph make the majority of the decisions regarding personnel on the D. The buck stops with the HC, but his a$$ is on the line, and if he wants to trust his future/livelihood to Wade, Vance and KJ, so be it.

I'm not a fan of KJ, don't see what they saw in him @ draft time and still don't, but its really hard to bitch about a D in the top 10. Yep, he's hiding in the stats, but facts remain, its a top 10 D right now.

It's a Rick smith draft pick and smith is the only guy who knows he is coming back next year and can afford the ego here.

WMH, I am not down on the defense, only KJ

Barret, yeah, but Kubs will be back if we get to a playoff game, so he feels like he is still in control. Thus his ego!

Kubs is not the guy primarily responsible for drafting KJ. Smith is.

Smith is not the guy primarily held responsible if KJ causes Houston to lose this year. Kubiak is.

Not to mention GMs and Head Coaches with GM authority are the ones who push for their pet picks to be given opportunity after opportunity. This is because they are judged by those picks. So for the GM it is sometimes less about winning than it is about winning with his guys. That's how Brees got run out of SD. Head coaches without GM authority just get judged off of winning. Plus Kubiak has already flopped and taken the ego hit to any defensive credibility he had. That defense and the picks associated got his guys fired. Wade is getting credit for this defense. KJ turning it around at some point does nothing for Kubiak's ego or rep.

Kubiak has no real incentive to push for KJ to play unless it is a part of Smith's agenda from on high.
