Then how the heck did Dickerson last all the way to the 7th round? I mean I'm glad we took him, but you gotta wonder.

Now that I think about it, how did Arian Foster make it all the way to free agency in his rookie year?

Makes me think that those who have been hollering for Smithiak's heads don't know what the hell they are talking about. Except that they stunk when picking for the defense, of course. But that wasn't their forte anyway.

Foster had attitude issues in college. I'm sure you remember that despite Slaton's total ineffectiveness Foster didn't play until the last couple of games his rookie year, and once he played he promptly went crazy.

I don't know whether I know what I'm talking about or not, but I do know that Kubiak and Smith have made many, many glaring mistakes and neither has any business holding his respective position in the NFL. And I will tell you right now that once each is shitcanned from the Texans Kubiak will never get another head coaching job in the league and Smith will never again be a GM in the league. Please don't assume that I believe I'm making some radical pronouncement here. Anyone with a brain that displays measurable activity will know this already.

Dickerson made it to the 7th round because he was a 225 lb TE, who looked like sh!t at WR in Mobile during Senior Bowl week. To small for NFL TE and lost out in space on the edge.

I still think his best position, if he has one in the NFL, will be in the slot, where he can be a mismatch.

Foster see Chuck's post.

As for Smithiak, being the guys who draft requires you to be able to build an entire team, not just one side of the ball.

I will give you that most teams have clueless GMs and they can not draft worth a d@mn.

He wasn't a good WR at Mobile because he had no past training as a WR, out in space type guy. Smithiak saw that and had the good sense to go after him.

I agree that Smithiak weren't any good at drafting defensive players. But in this past Draft with Wade Phillips advising, I think we will see, that that side of the ball is now being well served.

If every GM was good at drafting, we would have a league of contenders every year, not just a select few that we do have.

I think it's the combination of Kubiak and Smith together that's foobar. I don't like how Smith handles personnel matters for one, and they both seem to be complete imbeciles when it comes to identifying team weaknesses and addressing those weaknesses. If it wasn't for stumbling upon Foster, we'd still have a big questions at RB and they still haven't been unable to fix the secondary - particularly S. It's like they completely ignore that position, which is surprising since Smith was a S. Both of those issues (and others) they inherited when they took over the team 5 years ago. In addition, their coaching staff selections leave much to be desired. I think that's a primary reason why they keep drafting DLs. Their DC hires have been a joke and they can't scheme and/or find a DL coach who can coach these guys up. That's assuming their DL picks have any talent at all...

Still, it was Smithiak who stumbled upon Foster while 31 other teams didn't! Each to his own, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

We'll see how hard he's been working. He's got all the physicality in the world, he's just raw as hell. Of course, we've had guys with all the physical tools before, as well...

Foster got injured his junior year when he was projected a 2nd rounder. he came back out of shape with a sense of entitlement, and had a bad year. THAT'S why he was there the day after the draft. He's a superhero now.

Smithiak... You mean the two schelps that scouted, signed and ran the likes of Ron Dyane, Chris Taylor, Ahman Green and Chris Brown?

Tch, tch, even a blind hog finds an acorn once in awhile. But in all seriousness, Smithiak does OK on offense. They didn't do well on defense until they got a real good defensive coordinator in Wade. My bet is, starting with this past draft, they will do better with better advice on the defensive side. Bet ya a Kool-Aid.
