I have a couple of questions after the Senior Bowl week of practice and the game.

1) How high will Phil Taylor NT Baylor rise before the draft? Is he going to be like Raji and jump into the 1st round? Raji went #9 to Green Bay in 09.

2) Is Von Miller overhyped?

3) Should we go NT in the 1st and then take Reed later to play OLB?

4) Is our middle of the OL OK if we pass on guys like Wisniewski, Pouncey, Hudson, Moffitt or Danny Watkins Baylor? Anyone of those guys would improve our interior OL in the long run. But how else are we going to get defensive guys that we need?

Is this mock to far of a reach?
17 Brandon Harris* CB Miami 5' 11" 195 ***trade down with NE
42 Phil Taylor DT Baylor 6' 4" 355
60 Stefen Wisniewski OG Penn State 6' 3" 297 ***for the trade down from NE
73 Sam Acho DE Texas 6' 3" 258
104 Brooks Reed OLB/DE Arizona 6'3" 255
135 Shiloh Keo S Idaho 5' 11" 210
173 Tejay Johnson S TCU 6' 1" 210
203 Chas Henry PT Florida 6' 3" 215

We would need to sign a FA or two from some other team.

1. I look at Phil Taylor and think about a few recent drafts...
Dan Williams - #26
Ron Brace - #40
Torell Troup - #41
Linval Joseph - #46
Terrence Cody - #57
Terrence Knighton - #72
Pat Sims - #26
----There isn't a BJ Raji type player in this draft. I'm hopeful that Jarvis Jenkins will be around in the 3rd round sort of like Roy Miller was, but we may just have Sean Cody as our NT this year unless we sign a Free Agent.

2. Yes, he is a bit overhyped. I liked Brian Orapko better than Miller and he was drafted #13.

3. No to the first and yes to the second. A CB would be my preference in the 1st, but only if they are a stud. Otherwise, a trade down and selecting a 5-Tech may be best.

4. I think a decent OL prospect can be selected in the 4th or possibly 5th round. John Moffit or Tim Barnes?

Hadn't validated this, but heard one of TV guys say Green Bay DL has 4 guys of 320lbs they sometimes rush together. That is a big DL. Led by Raji now.

If the draft were tomorrow using PK's trade:

17. J.J. Watt* 3-4DE Wisconsin 6' 6" 285
42. Jabaal Sheard OLB3-4 Pittsburgh 6' 4" 260
60. Bruce Carter OLB UNC 6' 3" 230
73. Chimdi Chekwa CB Ohio State 6' 0" 190
104. Jerrell Powe DT Mississippi 6' 2" 330
135. Ricky Stanzi QB Iowa 6' 4" 218
173. Niles Paul WR Nebraska 6' 1" 215
203. Chris Culliver S South Carolina 6' 0" 190

Not my dream draft, but not too bad. I do think I have around 6 players that will see the field, if not start, unlike previous drafts.

Default draftsite.com 2.1.11

post senior bowl mock

11 Von Miller OLB Texas A&M 6' 3" 240
42 Quinton Carter S Oklahoma 6' 1" 195
73 Lawrence Guy* DT Arizona State 6' 5" 300
104 Johnny Patrick CB Louisville 5' 11" 190
135 Brian Rolle ILB Ohio State 5' 11" 220
173 Niles Paul WR Nebraska 6' 1" 215
203 Greg McElroy QB Alabama 6' 3" 220

I could be happy if this were the actual draft.

My attempt

11 Von Miller OLB Texas A&M 6' 3" 240
42 Quinton Carter S Oklahoma 6' 1" 195
73 Stefen Wisniewski OG Penn State 6' 3" 297
104 Sione Fua DT Stanford 6' 2" 307
135 Shiloh Keo S Idaho 5' 11" 210
173 Ricky Stanzi QB Iowa 6' 4" 218
203 Roy Helu Jr. RB Nebraska 6' 0" 215

1st a pure pass rusher that is better than we have had to team with Barwin, two solid safeties to groom, a solid middle of the offensive line type, a solid force in the middle of the DL (not a push the pocket type but a plugger), a good developmental backup type QB, and a very nice 3rd RB option.

If we sign Nnamdi Asomugha(I can dream), we're gonna break the bank and therefore not be able to resign a few notable FA this offseason, mainly Pollard and Jacoby Jones, who'll be looking to get paid.
So now we have new holes to fill.

11. Justin Houston* DE Georgia 6' 3" 259
42. Quinton Carter S Oklahoma 6' 1" 195 (Pollards replacement)
73. Casey Matthews ILB Oregon 6' 2" 235
104. Danny Watkins OT Baylor 6' 4" 310
135. Greg Little WR UNC 6' 3" 220 (JJ replacement)
173. Mike Blanc DE3-4 Auburn 6' 4" 290
203. Dane Sanzenbacher WR Ohio State 5' 11" 185

Default Drafttek.com 2011 Consensus Mock Draft In-Season Revision #19 2.9.11

11 Aldon Smith Missouri OLB34
Quote:
A top-flite conversion project for Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme, Smith played DE for Mizzou -- at 6'5" and 260 lbs, if he displays the ability to play on 2 feet and cover the flanks, the Texans' defense will have made great strides (because we already know he can rush the passer). This is the first step in rebuilding Houston's front seven, because if you don't have OLB's, you don't have a 3-4. - Long Ball
42 Christian Ballard Iowa DE34
Quote:
Ballard was the 2nd best pass-rusher in the Senior Bowl to Cameron Jordan and plays the game with a tenacity and passion not often seen today. After Smith (OLB34) in the 1st round, this is the next building block in Houston's conversion to a 3-4 defense. The Texans' current roster only has 2 candidates to play DE in a 3-4: Mario Williams and Antonio Smith. Ballard compliments this duo nicely and provides an excellent rotation pattern for the 3-man line. - Long Ball
73 Robert Sands West Virginia FS 6-4 215
104 Wayne Daniels TCU OLB34
141 Clint Boling Georgia OG
172 Mario Butler Georgia Tech CB
202 Deunta Williams North Carolina SS

Williams in the 7th? not sure about that.

My cherry pick:

11 Aldon Smith Missouri OLB34
42 Phil Taylor Baylor DT34
73 Tyler Sash Iowa SS
104 Rahim Moore UCLA FS
141 Jalil Brown Colorado CB
172 Anthony Gray Southern Miss DT34
202 Deunta Williams North Carolina SS

Don't think it will go down this way, but a guy can dream about some heavy beef for the NT position.
