Default Elway Luring Dennison Back to Denver

The Broncos have asked Kubiak's permission to interview OC Rick Dennison for the Head Coaching position according to the Denver Post.

Denver Post story Wonder who Kubiak tabs if Dennison takes the job?

Wasn't Kubes doing all the playcalling anyway? See if we can get Baby Shanny back. His offenses really took off. OK, no chance, but get someone who can do their own playcalling. Kubes needs to be tuned in to the entire game, not just the playcalling.

interesting, there is likely an updated analysis of offensive coordinators,

looks like atlast when this was written, many head coaches were also calling the plays, some very successful teams.

not sure which OC available now, but I guess they do need to be familiar with offense similar to what Texans run.

And it would be nice to see some due diligence in choosing the new OC if needed.

and even older list of I suppose potential candidates

I would think the odds are very low (5%) of Denver hiring Rick Dennsion. The Broncos have attempted to move on from the ole' Shanahan era, and Dennison doesn't have much star power to recover from Denver's worst record ever.

In the unlikely event that Dennsion leaves my money would be on QB coach Greg Knapp to become OC. Kubiak has made that move before (Lil Shan) and Knapp has extensive OC experience.

I wouldn't mind Knapp getting the gig if Dennison leaves. Although maybe Im just saying that out of pity because i still remember him as the guy who got a national TV sideline bashing from TO... and he just sat there and took it.

It looks like the Broncos have five HC candidates:

Dennison
John Fox
Perry Fewell (Giants' DC)
Dirk Koetter (Jaguars' OC)
Eric Studesville (interim HC)

Dennison's advantage is his longtime connection to Elway and the Broncos but he might be the least experienced in terms of coordinator/HC experience other than Studesville.

IMO, Fox is the smart pick. The Broncos need a stable, steady defensive guy after the last disaster.

Fewell seems to be this year's Rooney Rule patsy.

Broncos decided to go with Fox. Looks like Kubiak's best friend will stay.

And here's what our OC had to say about Denver -

"I've known the Broncos forever. If it is (an advantage), that's great, I'll use that to the best of my abilities. I'm orange and blue all the way through. I just work in Houston now."—Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison in an interview with the Denver Post on Tuesday.

Gotta love that. I don't know what's worse, the comment or the fact that he's too stupid to realize things you say in Denver are going to get back to Houston. What year does he think it is?

Yeah, that was a dumb thing to say, but I'm glad he's staying. The play calls were marginally better this year than last. Whoever is calling the plays needs to work harder to establish the run before abandoning it though. Hopefully, a better defense will keep them from hitting the panic button so often.

Dennison didn't exactly bowl me over with his first year as our OC, unless you credit him with bringing Arian Foster up to his 2010 success.

Dennison's Orange and Blue Denver sympathies didn't exactly help him in his quest for the Denver HC job either, since Fox beat him out.
