The Texans have placed defensive end Mario Williams (sports hernia), guard Mike Brisiel (shoulder) and wide receiver David Anderson (shoulder) on injured reserve, meaning they are lost for the last three games of the season.

Now that really sucks! So much for the rest of the season.

I buy into not keep Dunta as an excuse unless Kubiak wanted him gone.
And the team's record with DeMeco: 4-2. Without DeMeco: 1-6 (with that one win against a Rusty QB). Coincidence? Maybe. It sure didn't help losing him. Not saying this to defend Kubiak, or especially Smith, but just sayin'. Sorry to derail. Yeah, big shock Mario went to IR the day after the season effectively ended. |

Wait....losing DeMeco isn't a valid excuse? Losing the captain of our defense, no matter how bad the defense is, is massive. Sorry.
I mean, don't get me wrong, no excuses, but it's a pretty big deal. |

I think Mario was on IR anyways with his hernia, the guy could hardly walk during the game, much less play, didn't play much the last game. profs to Mario for trying to play when most guys would already be out.
anyways, we now get to see some of the other guys that were not active or on practice squad I suppose. why not. |

We might as well try to better our draft position at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I like Demeco and think he is a solid player but how many plays can you remember him making over the last few seasons that were really game-impacting plays? I can't think of many. He doesn't generate many turnovers, sacks, or TFLs. On the other hand, I can remember several plays by Cushing last year which directly impacted the outcome of the game (timely INTs, forced fumbles, TFLs, coming up and stoning the RB for a 1 yard gain on 3rd and 2, etc.). Demeco is a solid MLB, but he primarily compiles gaudy tackle numbers by tackling guys 5-7 yards down the field. Now, he is a pretty sure tackler and usually maintains his assignments which are all good things, but I just don't see him as having a huge impact on games.

I didn't, either, but you can't argue with the before and after W-L percentages.
Man, watching this game a) SF sucks, bad, and b) I don't understand how SD can lose to such shit teams so often. Sometimes they look absolutely brilliant. |

Demeco held down the middle of the field which allowed the edge players more room to free lance and make plays. It doesn't make for a lot of exciting stats, other than total tackles, but his impact on the defense is important. I think it took a few weeks for the run defense to recover however the pass defense still suffers. We have nobody stopping either the short passes or the long ones.
