We missed on Dan Williams - so I hope we get Linval Joseph and Geno Atkins in this draft. Not mad about KJ. I had K. Wilson and McCourty ahead of him, but they are all about the same to me. Wanted to trade down if we didn't take Dan Williams. Anyway, on to the 2nd round........

28 picks in the books and Kyle Wilson still on the board. The Browns were thinking about that dude when they decided on Joe Haden, so when will he go? When is Jimmy Clausen going? Tebow went before Clausen, are you kidding me?

We must get Gerhart in the 2nd round, at least that is what I'm thinking. Especially after Mathews went so early.

My thoughts exactly.

BOTTOM LINE

Kareem is the type of player that has the overall talent you look for in a cornerback, but his lack of experience in zone coverage is a problem. You need to get this kid on the field so that he can get more repetitions, but you can't put him on the field in your nickel-dime package until he gets more experience. You might be able to use him as a safety in nickel and dime, but then he is learning two positions at once and that will only slow his process. I'm sure he can help you on special teams because he can tackle and might be able to return kicks, but playing him at corner right now would be a big mistake. He is a systems cornerback and teams that play more press coverage are going to be very interested in drafting Kareem; unfortunately, I would be concerned that even in that system his confidence would be shaken if he got beat a few times in a game. Kareem comes from a big time program and has had very good coaching, but he still has a lot to learn about being a cornerback for the NFL level. If he stayed in another year I'm sure I would be suggesting that he has 1st round talent; however, right now he has first round potential that still has to be developed.

I was thinking they would take Wilson. Wilson was still available yet they chose Jackson. They are the experts and obviously they scout all these players extensively. They liked Jackson better and I trust them that they made the right choice.

6 min video clip on the official of DC Frank Bush explaining why the team selected Jackson.

http://www.houstontexans.com/tv/inde...54&play_clip=Y

Worth watching, but the short version is they like his toughness, his championship pedigree, and his ability to come from a complex D that Saban ran at Alabama to contribute immediately in the NFL.

Jackson is the most ready to play today of the 3 CBs I had targeted for us, but IMO his upside is not as high as Wilson's. McCourty was passed by our guys for some reason, so I have to assume Ray Rhodes liked the Saben trained junior better than the other two, and I will trust his track record over mine.

It looks like the Texans were really after Ryan Mathews when you look at Frank Bush's comments. I think San Diego caught Houston and Seattle by suprise when they jumped up to 12 and nabbed Mathews.

(on if they were set on a defensive player as the time got close) "We were set on defense. Of course you know there's two sides to the board as you look at the draft board and the offense had their guys that they really wanted and we had the guys that we wanted and as the things start to shake out, you know some things happened that we didn't forsee and then we had an opportunity to basically go back in and discuss the defensive players and this was a guy that we really wanted. He was a guy that we had really high on our draft board as far as defense is concerned and so that gave us an opportunity to go get him. We had a need in a lot of different positions as you guys understand and we were looking at running back but we also had a need at corner. We felt like this was a player that we had to go get."

I didn't like the 1st round only draft on a thursday night. It was too frantic of a pace and I really think alot of teams rushed their decisions. For all the millions these teams will be paying these 1st round players I think they should go back to the 15 minute per pick 1st round.

I do like our pick though. I think Frank Bush is a really good defensive coach and he knows how to get players that fit his scheme. As I've said before, the only way the Texans make the playoffs is to let Bush build an elite defense that can over come Kubiak's coaching blunders.

I think that was the reason for the pick. Trying to make the playoffs now calls for someone ready to step in and start rather than waiting a year or two for the player to get up to potential. I like up side but with Robinson gone the need is now rather than later for a quality starter. If Jackson is the player then I have no problem with the pick.
