Default [ESPN the Mag] Angry Dre's Uncle-Agent to Force Trade in Offseason?

Seems like a whole lotta nothing, but Andre Johnson's agent (and uncle) said some things out of turn in a cover story for ESPN the Magazine this week.

From the chron:
Quote:
In the story, his uncle, Andre Melton, who also serves as his agent, tells the magazine they have a plan to force a trade but refuses to discuss the details.

“That didn’t come from me,” Johnson said after practice Saturday. “I wish he hadn’t said what he said, but that’s his opinion. I make my own decisions, and I plan on being here until I retire.

“I’m not going to lie: He (Melton) has brought it to my attention, and he has a right to his opinion. I didn’t go to him with it. I don’t think it’s a big deal.” ...

“If he never gets a chance at a ring, and I let him stay, I’d be doing him an injustice,” Melton told writer David Fleming. “Andre has done everything and given everything to this franchise. At some point, if your best player becomes angry and doesn’t want to be there – there’s just something wrong with your franchise.”

If you don't want to buy the mag to read the article, you should be able to read it online for the next week or so here:

Starts on pg 52 I think.

I think I trust AJ's version of this. So, not much to it.

Not to sound condescending..........but he is under contract for 5 more years. What his uncle wants, really doesn't mean shit, and I think that Rick Smith has proven that he can and will play hard ball with the "core" of our team.

Having said that, I am sure glad Dre squashed it quickly. We don't need distractions for these crucial last 7 weeks. If they want to bitch and whine in mid February, fine (at least that will give us something to keep track of).

GAWD....this weekend is dragging A$$....

I feel bad for Dre. He has the talent to be a HOF, however he has not had the support around him to give him the extra bling needed to make the HOF. If the Texans were to wrap up two more medicore seasons and possibly have a coaching change I would be shocked if he didnt force a trade. Which could quite possibly be what is on his mind. But I cant imagine that the way this team is starting to look and the numbers he is putting up that he would even be considering it at this point.

Family and friends can be overbearing sometimes trying to push a loved on in a direction they believe is better for them, and this is how I see it. It is unfortunate that his family is also his agent in this case.

Hopefully this does not distract him, which is doubtful in any case.

This franchise is hopeless. I would love to see him play for a team that has competent ownership and management and coaching. I would like to see him force the team's hand over the offseason and expose the team for the fraud they are.

Would you trade AJ to NE for two 1st and two 2nds.

One of those 1st would be in 2011, the rest would be this year.

No other team would have a package worth looking at to me. And I am not sure I would trade AJ for the above picks.

Are you crazy ? I would jump all over that so fast ! Not that it's gonna be offered to us by NE or anybody. No way.
AJ is not 22 anymore, and he's only got one more season after this one while still in his 20s. Oh I think AJ will be playing into his 30s but not with the kind of speed he had coming out of the U.
With OD back and Jacobey & Keven Walters at WR next year we would still have a very solid receiving corp.

We are back to re-building mode so we better get some trade ideas happening. They need to get rid of that fraud, Mario Williams, while he still has some value left.

What a joke! Aside from Andre Johnson, I can't think of any player that we can really trade and come out ahead.
