from the Texans own reports at the time

Cushing, the Texans' starting strongside linebacker, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in 2007 while at USC. But on Wednesday afternoon, he said that his latest injury was caused by the wear and tear of camp and called it "no big deal."

"I'm not (worried)," Cushing said. "I've sprained my knee before. This is football. Little things like this are going to happen. It's preseason; I'll be healthy."
After a week of practice his knee strained enough for him to not be available for four weeks. And he was still handed the starters role. No practice but you can start. How is that not different?

Hmm, Cushing had a pretty good game, maybe still going to get much better.

I didn't see in the Texans article where the knee got strained on its own and didn't see the word "overworked" used. You don't think it might have been due to contact of some sort. Lots of guys get inured all the time.

On the practice bit, he was here all preseason, he was out on practice field, even if held out of the practice games, and I think played in the final preseason practice with Tampa. His production the first two games shows he deserves to be starting. I am sure Pitts, Myers, Walters, several have been handled carefully.

And, JJ, I think he's doing pretty well, helping us win. And thinking too much.
I thought it was nice of him to support AJ in the scuffle.

Cushing was said to have said "that his latest injury was caused by the wear and tear of camp"

Cushing has a history of this in college, plus he on record discussing his workouts, and how he does not allow his body rest. IMO, this guy is heading to an injury prone career. That said, I hope I am wrong and he has a HOF career here in Houston with a couple Super Bowl rings.
