Analyzing the big runs

[Big Texas]

3rd Qtr- 3rd and 11 (wow another 3rd and long)
Shotgun 4 Wide

Pre-Snap-Busing presses down on the receiver. Other DBs man to man. The DLine is split wide to attack the edges. Demeco and Cushing in the middle.

After the snap- Demeco blitzes and gets caught up in the wash.

Bulman has a free shot to bring him down either behind the line or for a 1-2 yard gain. He just misses the tackle all together.

Cushing gets picked up by the interior lineman. The ends are attacking from the edge leaving the middle open.

Last line of defense: Eugene Wilson. He gets shook out of his shoes. He couldnt even slow him down for the rest of the team to catch up and make the tackle. He ran for 91 yds without a single person in sight. WOW

Well, at least we won. I really do hope Kubiak is addressing these issues this week.

In this one you forgot to mention that the right guard for Tenn shoved Okoye 5 yards down the line of scrimage opening the hole for Johnson. I sure hope tis guy grows up and reaches his potential before he becomes a FA. Right now he just gets pushed around like a rag doll on too many occasions.

Thanks for all the analysis Big Tex. Thing I notice is we have a lot of really young guys in there on defense during these plays. I expect they are getting lots of good coaching on these situations this week. And, there were only three big plays against our defense, three really big ones, over 20 yards. We had like 8 over 20 yard plays against Titans, so , just depends what you want to measure.

I just want him off the freakin' field! Cody and Robinson should be starting this week if our coaches have a clue.

I thought Okoye played well sunday. He got beat on that play, but other than that play the most part the Titans struggled to run inside. Where they beat us was outside. And mostly on third and long on draws. These are 2nd level tackling issues more than anything to do with the DL.

Additionally Okoye made a great play on a screen pass, something few Texans have done in the history of the franchise.

I just think that Okoye has become a convenient fan scapegoat because of his high draft position. How many of you complaining actually broke down the line play in that game and how many just don't like the guy?

I defended him last season. Also, I was very hopeful for him this season. I argued that he was misused last year and that once he was allowed to penetrate again, he would excel. Unfortunately, it isn't so. I watch and rewatch the line play every game on my DVR. The guy has no fight or anchor in him. He will occasional flash in the picture when rushing the passer, but he always gets ridden past the QB. And, sometimes, he can make a play on the backside of the play. Otherwise, he's absolutely useless and I'm angry with the coaching staff for their insistence at playing him. Clearly, Robinson and Cody should be the starting DTs.

Being drafted high comes with high expectations. Yes he made some good plays but he gets manhandled way to much. A guy in his third year that was drafted that high shouldnt be getting moved around that easily. It is one thing to get pushed back alittle or sheilded off from a play but when you allow a single OL to move you five yards down the feild away from the play there is something wrong.

I want the guy to succeed as much as anyone but he has to stop getting dominated on certain plays every game. Making a few good plays then getting completely washed out on one isnt good enough. I dont care where you were drafted. Im not doggin the guy I just want to see he become more consistant.

I agree he needs to far more. I agree with some of the issues you bring up.

I just thought it was odd that he was the guy people went after in a thread about the big runs we gave up. I just thought those runs were about our 2nd line issues rather then the DL.

I think our 1st line run defense was not bad against the Titans. If we have safeties that can play then those are two 20 yard runs. Throw in the blown coverage by our safeties and I am far more upset with the back end of our defense than the front end.

I know this is relative (we aren't particularly good anywhere on D right now), but in a thread about big runs I just wanted to see the blame spread around where it belongs, not just dumped on a guy who has become a convenient target but had little to do with these plays.
