Default Predict the 53 man roster

(2) QB Schaub Orlovsky
(3) RB Slaton, Brown, Moats
(1) FB Leach
(6) WR AJ, Walters, Davis, Anderson, Jones, Martinez
(4) TE Daniels, Dreessen, Hill, Casey
(9) OL Winston, Breisel, Myers, Pitts, Brown, Caldwell, Studdard, Butler, White
25
(1) K Brown
(1) P Turk

(8) DL Williams, Okoye, Robinson, Smith, Barwin, Bulman, Okam, Cody
(6) LB Adibi, Ryans, Cushing, Bentley, Diles, Thompson
(4) S Barber, Busing, Ferguson, Wilson
(6) CB Robinson, Reeves, Bennett, Molden, Quinn, McCain,
22

That is 49 players. I can add 4 more guys.

Do I add the obvious, the LS? Or backup FB? Or do I keep a 3rd team QB like Grossman based on his past record.

What about Travis Johnson? Darnell Jenkins? Jesse Nading, or Tim Jamison?

I am not guessing the bottom of the roster, but I will take a shot at the PS guys.
OC Helms
CB Richardson
DT Leonard
RB Foster
OT Washburn
OT Stenavich
QB Brink
WR Jones

Fill me in or pick me apart.

Looks about right.

I'd add (at least) another T as you only have 3 as is.

Also, I'd be surprised not to see us with another DL or 2. TJ will probably be rostered if he isn't traded.

Maybe even another safety given the new special teams rules. I'd surprised (but not disappointed) to see Harrison cut this season.

I think your light on DL. The Saints made it obvious that we are still weak against the run at DT. They will likely throw numbers at the problem in an effort to keep guys fresh. Travis Johnson likely makes this team. He's obviously not as disliked by the Texans FO and coaches as he is by the fans...that doesn't mean they like him, just that they don't hate him as much as we do.

Buster Davis could make it a LB.

Another DB could be a possibility to give a little more insurance while Dunta works out the kinks.

Kubiak likely keeps a dedicated long snapper unless there's a position player he thinks he just has to find a way to put on to the team. It's somewhat annoying, but I think the danger of your LS getting hurt right before a crucial game winning kick will keep the dedicated long snapper on the roster. Otherwise you need to make sure that your getting 2 or three guys regular work at long snapping every week.

I can see Jenkins or Martinez making the roster.

In general, I would guess that the last few roster spots will go to defense if it's close...the whole throw enough bodies at the problem and hope one sticks thing.

And don't forget that Jacques Reeves will probably be an active scratch in week 1. They probably carry that 7th CB for at least the first game or two just to be sure.

And Travis and Harrison probably make the 53, too. I really like what Martinez has shown, but I think if push came to shove, that 6th WR might not make the final cut.

I need 4 more players, so who? We both know where, but who? So you are saying TJ, I agree there.

At OT which guy do you keep? Can you not hid a player on the PS, since none of the young tackles will be active on game day, until we have injury.

By this team I meant San Diego....I wasn't really buying the whole trade TJ thing. Proving once again to never listen to me. I would expect to see us bring in someone elses leftover. Depending on what San Diego ask him to do, TJ could be successful(relatively) there if the undiagnosed hernia was really a problem and he gets a little chip on his shoulder.

Good question that I don't have an answer for. I'm not really atune to which 4th OT they feel is the best. If I had to guess, it'd be Washburn if it's someone currently on the roster, though I think they might look at a roster casualty from another team.

If I had to guess who the last 4 would be, I'd guess:
Harris
OT FA pick-up
Brandon Harrison
Deltha O'Neal

Now that T.J. is gone I expect the front office to trade for a DT or pick one up from the cut list as available to add to the defensive unit. This could be a starter, rotation player, back-up, or PS depending on quality.

I don't see carrying 6 WRs if you're going to carry 4 TEs. If needed, they can always put OD or Casey in the slot if they want to run a four-wide and have just three healthy receivers.

I saw Dale Murphy mention Sands might be cut from Oakland. I can't verify the veracity of that, but, if true, I think he'd be a fantastic add to our interior.

I agree, Sands would be a solid NT for us.

I think Zgoninna makes it. I think he has looked better this year than the past, plus he is familiar with everyone. Buster Davis has been fairly active in what I've seen. I think he makes it. I think Chaun Thompson hasn't shown enough to stick. Simmons has been very good on special teams. I think he makes it for that reason. I think I like Watkins better than what I've seen of Washburn. I like Jamison more than Nading. Don't know if he is PS or 53 man roster. Can't wait until tonight.

I think Jamison has a shot at the 53 man roster. But remember he has PS eligibility and Nading may not have any left.

I posted my first one just before TC started here.

QB- Schaub, Orlovsky, Grossman – While I don’t see Schaub as an injury prone guy, his recent ankle sprain means we keep 3.

RB- Slaton, Brown, Moats – Moats has the upper hand here over the Hall and Foster, he is a 3rd down type RB with experience in the system.

FB- Leach – He is a pro bowler IMO, hardly ever goes down, and we have some TE’s that can fill in now.

OL- Brown, Pitts, Meyers, Brisiel, Winston, Butler, Caldwell, Studdard – White is the only guy I see who might push for one last roster spot, but since it is at a position you are keeping 2 guys at it probably wont happen. Studdard took a big step this offseason, and could be the potential LG of the future.

WR- Johnson, Walter, Davis, Anderson, Jones – Jacoby has stepped up, he is protecting the ball and has progressed as a receiver, his ST play ability is what gives him another season. Since the TJ trade I have been expecting Davis and/or Anderson to be traded with a pick to another team for a NT.

TE – Daniels, Dreessen, Casey – I just don’t know if Hill fits on the roster with Casey showcasing his abilities and getting some time in as LS. The only way Hill does make it is if Clark is cut and Casey takes over LS duties.

DE – Mario, Smith, Bulman, Barwin, Nading – Nut much to speculate on here.

DT – Amobi, Cody, Okam, Robinson, Zgonina – With TJ gone this is all we have. It is scary we have the second(?) oldest guy, who happens to have the biggest mutated calves, in the NFL as a DT. Again I still expect a trade a WR and pick for another DT soon.

LB – Adibi, Demeco, Cushing, Diles, Bentley, Thompson – Davis could grab a spot but he has PS eligibility I think, so we take age to help the already youthful corps.

CB- DRob, Reeves, Bennett, Molden, McCain, Quinn, O’neal – Opening day roster is stacked with CB’s, is not a good stack considering holdouts, injuries, and experience though. Most likely Quinn and O’Neal get cut after DRob is up to speed and Reeves in recovered.

S – Ferguson, Barber, Wilson, Busing – I just don’t think Harrison makes the cut.

K/P/LS – Brown, Turk, Clark –I went out on a limb here with the two kickers. I haven’t watched that much, but I have a feeling Casey doesn’t have the LS spot locked up yet. This may change by mid season though.

PS- Richardson, Jamison, B. Davis, Foster, Washburn, Hill, Jenkins – I think 7 is the PS size?

Not a lot of changes here, I think the CB situation is taking up some roster spots for potential RB/WR/TE/S candidates. And I still believe there is a trade coming down the pipe for another DT

Hill is a short yardage specialist. He has no competition on the roster for that position, and the Texans have always carried one. I will be very surprised if he doesn't make the roster.

I have to agree here. Hill played a lot week 3, but he was mostly blocking so it went unnoticed. The Texans passed on Casey to take a blocking TE in Hill. That doesn't mean that they aren't excited about Casey as a playmaker. It just means that Hill is more likely to get in games in two TE sets to help the run game.

I thought there was a chance that Dreesen gets cut, which kinda sucked because I always liked him for some reason. Although Kubiak is known to cut vets early if they are going to have a hard time making the team so they have more time to find work. Which makes me think they could carry four TE. Casey's versatility probably makes that possible.

Final Camp Roster we are going to watch the waiver wire still.
(3) QB Schaub Groceman Orlovsky
(4) RB Slaton, Brown, Moats Hall
(1) FB Leach
(6) WR AJ, Walters, Davis, Anderson, Jones, Martinez
(4) TE Daniels, Dreessen, Hill, Casey
(9) OL Winston, Breisel, Myers, Pitts, Brown, Caldwell, Studdard, Butler, White
24
(1) K Brown
(1) P Turk

(8) DL Williams, Okoye, Robinson, Smith, Barwin, Bulman, Okam, Cody, Zgonina
(7) LB Adibi, Ryans, Cushing, Bentley, Diles, Thompson, Verdell
(4) S Barber, Busing, Ferguson, Wilson
(6) CB Robinson, Reeves, Bennett, Molden, Quinn, McCain, AJ Davis
25

My original list was close. Groceman IMO has earned the #2 job from Orlovsky, Kubiak would not admit it, but came close in his presser. Our DB situation week 1 is a huge "?" because Dunta is not in yet, (and not on the roster as I am showing him) and Reeves has not practiced yet. Ferguson status is still in question due to knee strain.

As i predicted we did not keep a LS specialist. Dreessen is #1 snapper followed by Casey and Zgonina.

OK Dunta show up in condition to play.

The Texans are getting a roster exemption for 2 weeks to carry 54 players due to the Dunta situation.
I think the last guys who made the team are: Hall, Martinez and Zgonia. Not sure which one of the three is most likely to go. I leave Thompson off the list because that
Would only leave 7 lb's. I think it is wise to keep 4rb's with Browns injury history. Usually these things work themselves out with an unfortunate
Injury. With Jacques injury, this is a good time to keep an extra cb.

I seriously doubt what we see now is what we are going to end up with by week 2. I would imagine there will be some activity thru tomorrow, then a flurry after week 1. As best I can remember, there is some rule about a vet's salary being fully guarranteed, IF they are on the roster week 1. Just my hunch though....

IIRC, if you bring a vet (I think it is a 4+ year vet) on board before week 3, his salary is guaranteed. After that he can just get cut with zip for pay.
