Default Texans Open Camp with a Few PUPpies...

From Kubes' presser:
Quote:
(on players that had offseason surgery) "(DT) Travis (Johnson) and (CB) Antwaun (Molden) will be PUP (Physically Unable to Perform). Also, (TE) Anthony Hill will be PUP starting tomorrow; he's got a hamstring issue. I think the other two guys are going to be okay. I think (C Antoine) Caldwell will be taken off of that by tomorrow and (RB) Jeremiah Johnson. So that's where we stand right now."

(on DT Amobi Okoye's status) "Amobi's fine. He's passed the physical. But I want to be somewhat cautious with him coming off of the scope. You'll see him out there tomorrow morning. He'll be limited in what's he's doing. We'll go from there."

(on CB Antwaun Molden's status) "He's definitely PUP. We think he's a few weeks away. He will not be out there. We will work with him away from the team atmosphere. We will work with him individually. We think he's getting very close." ...

I am starting to wonder if Molden will ever be healthy. I know he had a awesome season on ST when he played, but it seems never ending with him.

I didn't even know Molden was injured.

Is he going to be Rick Smith's first real bust of a draft choice?

I thought Molden was impressing everyone, especially on special teams before he had ankle surgery. does seem his recovery going slower than expected. Kubiak didn't say when he thought the training camp pup's would likely end. hopefully we'll hear the likely recovery times soon.

Why is a player a bust if he's not on the field because of injury ?
For example I never thought of Bennie Joppru as a bust ? He was just incredibly unfortunate because of repeatedly suffering season-ending injruies. And the guy didn't even have an injury history in college before the Texans drafted him.

While it's primarily semantics, Bob did describe it as a "bust of a draft pick." I would say that any pick in the first 4 rounds which virtually never gets on the field (for whatever reason) is a "bust of a draft pick." To me, that's not saying anything negative about the player, it's just acknowledging that the Texans got nothing out of a draft pick which should reasonably be considered to contribute.

I agree it's semantics, but that's not my definition of a bust. A bust is someone whose talent or commitment was way overrated.

Well, I would call Joppru a bust. We wasted a second-rounder on him and got almost nothing out of it. If that is Molden's eventual fate, I would say the same thing.

Some people want to call Jerome Mathis a bust but at least we got a few touchdowns out of the guy before he hit the scrap pile.

I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I just don't think Molden will be a bust of any kind. He will be held out a couple of weeks to get that ankle completely ready then he will be fine.

The Mothership is reporting that Hill passed a physical today and will be taken off the PUP.

re: Molden - ya, I'm rooting for him. He seems like a good "kid" and had a tough life so far from what I remember from a Chronicle article last year.

I believe he's got "playmaker" in him, IMHO....
