Default Draft watch party

Just checking in to see what everyone is doing to watch the draft. I have went to the first few Texan Draft parties, but now that we pick later I find it hard to hang out there. I have watched from the comfort of home the past few years flipping between ESPN and NFLN.

I was thinking of going to Nick's Place to watch this year. Thought it might be cool if the board members could get together somewhere.

My son has a baseball game where I'm the asst head coach. Starts at 11am... ugh. Our local little league obviously does not have the NFL draft in mind!

Getting together sounds good though even though I'm not sure I can make it, at least for the start. Any place with free wi-fi and free refills/cheap beer/good snacky foods would work imo.

I am supposed to meet a couple of my friends at Nick's so that is where I will be. I'll drop you a PM with my number and if you can make it buzz me and you will know who to look for.

Keith, unless the Texans trade up, you probably won't miss their pick. Expect the first round to take 6-7 hours and we are in the middle so our pick probably won't come up until about three hours into the show. That should give you time coach your son's game, go home, and still have a chance to go somewhere and watch the Texans make their pick or trade down.

Actually, since the NFL cut the time to select in the first round from 15 minutes down to 10 minutes, last year's first round only too like three and a half hours.

Plus, doesn't the draft start at 2 this year? I think they were talking about that on the radio earlier this week. Figure 8 or 9 minutes a pick, which should put the Texans at about 3:30 or so. Not enough time for you Keith?

That could work, but it'll be close. I'll be done with baseball and related matters sometime after 1:30-ish. I'm also probably an hour or so away, with my mom visiting that weekend, another obligation for my son that afternoon that hopefully can be taken care of, an annual carnival at the church... ugh, even still, I'm hopeful I can make it work. It's the freaking Draft!

Rocky Ridge, Off Westheimer maybe a mile or two inside the belt. I suck at directions, but that is the general area. If you were coming from the belt Rockey Ridge would be on the right hand side.

1560 is doing their draft show from there.

What channel is the better of the two for draft watch between NFLN and ESPN?

I splurged before football season with the 200 channel package (I dont watch much TV and cheap when it comes to my cable/dish) on my dish so I actually have NFLN for the draft now.

Just off Gessner, got it. I live a few blocks away, so I might be inclined to hang out.

NFLn is better IMO. Kiper can get real old.

I don't think that ESPN does the 2nd day, only the 1st. Therefore, I will skip between the two on day 1 simply so I don't have to listen to one group of people for an extended period of time. It also depends on if Mayock has the ability to discuss the player being drafted and who might be a good pick for the next team (i.e. keep focused on what's happening) or if the staff wanders off onto gossip and philosophy or whatever. I remember a couple of years ago when Mayock and Schefter got into a little pissing contest when Moss got traded. While somewhat entertaining, it wasn't why I tuned in.

Day two is usually on ESPN2. I really like watching the draft, not sure why, but it is like the anticipation of who is going where and who we might choose.

I doubt I can be there on Day 1 (depends on start time for work that day) but if there's a gathering at Nick's on day 2 I can make it.

Keith. The draft doesn't start until 3pm this year so I doubt you will miss anything.

If Keith will commit, I might just drive down from Austin to do this. I'm still mulling it over, debating whether I want to drive down Saturday, stay overnight, take in an Astros game on Sunday and then drive home. Gas is still cheap so I might just do this.

Do we know if Nick's will have the tv volume up? I'd hate to be there and then have to listen to 1560 or some live band while we squint at the ticker on the tv screens to find out what is happening. If there's a trade, how will we know what it was?

Okay, things are coming together. I think I ought to be able to get there about 2:30pm, maybe sooner if stuff falls into place. Either way, I'm planning on being there. I called Nick's, and they said they had free wi-fi, too. I'd hate to leave the forums high and dry!

I imagine the place will be packed then. What time are you getting there? Can you hold a spot at the table for me?

Link to their site - it has a map. Caution... there is another Nick's Sports Bar in west Houston, so be sure to hit up the right one.

I am planning on getting there about 1:30-2:00 or so. Yes, I'll hold a spot for you and if Bob is going to come, then I'll be sure we get a place for him as well.

You received my PM? Give me a call when you are on your way, and I'll tell you who to look for.
