This is what I think. Injury concerns aside I believe the team is waiting for other deals to get done in order to have a better idea of what Schaub might be worth according to the market.

I think Schaub's value should be in the $8.5MM~$10MM range. I understand the injury concern, but unless it's someting that will put him out indefinitely for '13, I don't see them as having a choice but to re-sign him. There's just nothing in the pipeline and I don't think there's going to be a good, veteran QB available in trade or FA (Kevin Kolb, Kyle Orton, anyone? joking...).
I guess they could trade for or draft a young QB, but who? Cousins?? Even then would you feel comforatble giving the reins of a potentail SB contender to a young QB? Wish we could blend TJ's youth and arm strength with Schaub's knowledge, vision, touch and patience. |

I did an article on this awhile ago, but this system, dating back to the Bronco days, seems to take a QB 3 years to really become effective in it. Not to say there can't be some earlier success, of course, but it's the 3rd year that showed a jump.
Next year will be T.J.'s 3rd year. I just have not seen enough improvement in his 2nd camp to make me think that this next leap is coming. And I had referenced QBs with better pedigree's than T.J. in that article (Cutler, Plummer, and Griese, not to mention Schaub...). |
