Default Aldon Smith

I was watching film on him to get a new look at the kid, a couple of notes.

One all of sacks came from the inside, not one sack from beating an OT, all of them came from beating an OG. In the NFL that will not happen.

According to John McClain, Warren Sapp thinks Smith is 2 years away from being a Ware clone, Sapp spent time working Smith out and was impressed by the kid.

My take on the kid is he is a 3rd year sophomore and he has not played very much football, I think he is being drafted on potential and the Texans track record on potential is not a good one. I am not sold on him, I really hope we trade up or trade down, please do not stand pat in this draft. Let the Pats draft the kid (Smith) based on potential, and get an extra pick.

We have butted heads several times in the past PK. You may be right, but I think the kid will make us an excellent OLB rusher...... On the other hand, in the unlikely event (at this time before the Draft) that a trade up for Miller or Peterson, should present itself, then I would be all for it.

I'm not high on Aldon either and would love to trade up to #6 and select Peterson. I just don't see that happening because Peterson will be selected higher than that. Justin Tuck was drafted in the 4th round and I'm not sure Aldon is as good as that.

Well let's just say we agree to disagree.

More and more mocks have Smith and Robert Quinn both on the Board when Houston picks, including Gosselins last mock which came out this morning that has Quinn falling all the way to 20. Obviously the word is that people are afraid of Quinn's medical history. I mean maybe his brain tumor was/is benign, it's still freakin cancer. And it's still in his skull !
So anyway, if a team is concerned about Quinns medical situation, and Justin Houston has got the problem with grass, and Von miller is going way too high then who's left in the way of edge-rushing prospects besides Smith ? Maybe Kerrigan ? OK, trade back and get extra picks ? Sounds good if you can find a partner ?

Yes, take Watt or trade back for Ayers and extra pick(s). I would really like to see us wind up with Peterson in a trade up.

Yes, Kerrigan would be a good fit.

I would say from the action of the Texans that Smith was their guy and he was taken before their pick, just like last season. So this year they went with the player they thought was the safe pick, just like last year. Only this season I see Watt as a solid DE, but on our team he is only depth, yes he comes in on passing plays and the front four is Williams, Watts, Smith, Barwin.

Thank you San Fransisco.

I will be watching Aldon Smith this year (if we are lucky enough to have an NFL season this year), and will let you all know if you are wrong, as you have been several times in the past.

I don't know what the Texans could have done about the 49ers preempting their plans to draft Smith unless you think they should have coughed up a third round pick and and traded spots with the 49 ers ? Do you really think Smith was worth our 2011 first & third round picks ?

Wasn't commenting on moving up to get Aldon Smith, as you well know. I was saying I'm going to see how well he plays for the 49'rs.

Default Aldon Smith

Well here it is after the 11th game of the year, and guess who is playing very well for S.F. - yes for all you dissenters, Aldon Smith is playing on a very good defensive line, and he has more than vindicated himself. I know we didn't even have a chance to draft him.

I might add that our first round pick, J.J. Watt is playing just as well.

I just wanted to make the point.

I also would like to make the point that Brooks Reed has more than vindicated himself too....along with Barwin.

They are a terrific young OLB combo, and given the price tag it would seem to make Marios retention here in Houston less and less likely ?

Wouldn't surprise me if we find a way to keep both Mario and Arian.
