Barber played that according to textbook coaching. The closest guy to the lead blocker has to take him out and assume he will clear the way for someone to fill and make the tackle. McCain is just too small to be of much help on that play, and Johnson was too fast for Ryans. What would you expect Barber to do in that situation, pick up the lineman, toss him out of the way and make the tackle? |

What I would expect him to do, is notice that this guy is coming down field full speed and make the correct decision to at least try to slow him down by getting in his way or trying to force him outta bounds. At least buy the rest of the team some time to catch up. Maybe there was nothing he could do or maybe there was. But what I do know is that taking out the blocker served no purpose what so ever, in that situation. If he has help then you take out the blocker to free up the tackle for your support. |

Like I said, he played it the way it is coached.

Most of our guys on those plays were young, (Barwin, McCain, Okoye, Cushing, and of course Barber). The thing not mentioned is their position coaches are new also (at least to our scheme). Point is they are learning and will get better. Hope the learning is sooner than later. Until then the offense must continue to improve in our own run game, and carry the team.
