It is similar to a WR who is not the #1 or #2 guy but isn't necessarily a great "slot" WR. Andre Davis probably has more talent than David Anderson, but may not get as many opportunities to come on the field unless KW or AJ are injured because he's the #1 backup to play on the outside.

Molden is probably better suited to play on the edge at CB and is the guy to come in when Reeves or Bennett gets hurt. Quin has the skillset that makes him a better Nickle because of the types of players and routes he would face in the middle of the field.

It basically comes down to philosophy of wanting the "best" players on the field vs. the players in their "best" positions that maximizes their strengths.
