Default Could Clowney-Bridgewater draft be possible?

You have to take mocks at CBS Sports with a grain of salt but but three of their five experts now think the Texans will draft Clowney at 1-1 then two of them show Bridgewater falling almost to 2-1 but for the Jaguars jumping in front and trading with the Seahawks at 1-32.

The Patriots (who actually used two of their private visits this week on Bridgewater and Manzeil - keep in mind Brady is turning 37 this year) and the Broncos have histories of trading down low 1st-round picks could probably be talked into a trade down to 2-1 if the Texans offered a decent deal.

If the Texans gave up 2-1 and 4-1 to move up and take Bridgewater giving them a Clowney-Bridgewater draft, how would you feel about that? I think I'd feel pretty good. If it cost 2-1 and 3-1, I might feel differently.

Don't you think all mocks are just for fun right now?

It could be all of these QB are still available at end of first and due to none look like ready to start day 1.

So I wouldn't like to see Texans trade up for a QB right now.

I'd be happy with a non QB pick at top of second.

O'Brien seems certain we will draft a QB (he didn't say where in the draft) but we already have Fitzpatrick and we aren't just letting go of Yates or Keenum it seems so I'd be happy with waiting around until the 3rd and getting Garappolo if he's still around or dealing that pick to the Redskins for Kirk Cousins. It really depends on what direction the braintrust is trying to go here and they aren't giving clear intentions.

Are we trying for a quick rebound to playoff contention or are we going with a 3-5 yr plan? If the former, take Clowney and start building a killer defense. If the latter, take Bortles and rebuild an offense while transitioning away from AJ and Foster who will be expensive albatrosses by that point.

I suppose it's possible but I'm thinking unlikely because I feel the "Big 3" will all be gone by the 15th pick..... 20th for sure...

I don't think any of 'em should be a day 1 starter and all should be brought along slowly but that just doesn't seem to happen very much anymore with 1st rounders...

Funny you bring this up Bob, I was thinking of this last week. Draftsite has Bridgewater going 26 to Cleveland. His possible destinations are Minnesota 8, Buffalo 9, Tennessee 11, and Dallas 16. If he gets past Dallas, we would be smart to have a trade in place w San Diego at 25. Maybe our 2.1 and 4.1 and our 3rd next year.

Can you imagine having to face Manziel and Bridgewater twice a year for the next 10 years if they landed in Jacksonville and Tennessee, respectively!? Not to mention Andrew Luck...

1.1. - J. Clowney, DE
1.25. - T. Bridgewater, QB
2.33. - Traded to S.D.
3.65. - Christian Jones, ILB/OLB
4.101. Traded to S.D.
4.135. - Jack Mewhort, OT
5.141. - Trai Turner, OG
6.177. - Antone Exum, CB/S
6.181. - Rajion Neal, RB
6.211. - Glen Carson, ILB

If it's scary to face manziel and bridgewater for the next 10 years then one should be the top pick.
