College guys to watch

I only saw a few moments of the game but East Carolina linebacker Quentin Cotton had an INT and just missed a 2nd one to seal the game.

It was odd watching Michgan without Henne.

Also Maryland has a couple stud RBs, and thier OL looked very solid.

NBT 09-02-2008 09:15 AM

PK, do you feel as I do, that we are a little unfulfilled going into this NFL season. Wish there was another Draft coming up we could delve into (I mean this year!).

Yes I do think we have a some more holes to fill, but I knew that going into the draft last year.

I am upset with the drafting of the QB in the 7th and the passing on Aldridge. No he was not the answer but he could have been a piece of the puzzle, which the cut QB is not going to be.

We need to try to gather as many picks as we can for next year, which currently is not as deep as the last one.

I'm a little upset also, but not sure Aldridge would see the field. I think Slaton and Taylor would be ahead of him on the depth chart.

He would be an upgrade to Walker. He might have made the team and been in the mix to get carries when Green went down. That is more than we will get from the cut QB.

KJ3 09-03-2008 07:25 AM

what about getting a DE in the 7th? i was more than a little surprised it wasn't that or an OLB instead of brink. tommy blake is the only name i can remember now but it's not like QB was a pressing issue.

Seeing that Blake has not been signed by anyone tells me he is not ready. I would take a shot on him, give him the work he needs, IR him and let see what we have next season.

KJ3 09-04-2008 12:46 PM

well, blake was the only one i could still remember being around in the 7th.

but regardless of who, at least take positions that are filling needs. we have a great backup QB already...unless sage thinks he's actually going to start anywhere next year...

NBT 09-05-2008 12:04 PM

The thing I am upset about is not so much the Draft, as we signed a big free agent DE in Colvin, and then he didn't work out! I thought with his signing we had closed the biggest hole left when we didn't go for a DE somewhere in the Draft. Now we are back where we were. Does Kubiak and Richard Smith think we have someone already on the roster that is going to step up and deliver that passrush we are (have been) lacking? They will have to show me.

What if we didn't take Brown? Then we're going into the season with a gimpy Salaam and....not much else IMO. Molden and Slaton both look like they are going to help fill some holes. Sure they could have gone DE instead of some of the later round picks they did take, but there has to be somewhere there they like better than who we took, and the chances of Colvin working out were probably better than any late round pick we could have taken. They tried several different people out at DE. None of them worked out. It's not like they ignored it.

Just drafting a position doesn't solve the problem. If the last draft class lives up to their potential then we'll have a lot less holes to fill.

NBT 09-06-2008 02:06 PM

Yes, I know Pappabear, and I have been thinking along those lines. With the problems we have been having at RB, the thought also occurs to me that we let Mendenhall slide. We will shortly find out if that was a mistake or not.

While I understand that we didn't have a net big enough to get all the help we needed, I am a little dissapointed that we didn't get at least one or two more big fish. And the Colvin fiasco was just one of them.

Nconroe 09-07-2008 10:15 AM

What do ya'll think about DeMarco Murry, sophomore RB at OU, looked pretty strong in the part of game i watched yesterday, does he come out this year or play another year or two before coming out.

gunn 09-08-2008 02:06 PM

What about the Defensive Coordinator for the Hurricanes?

NBT 09-08-2008 02:41 PM

LMAO, think they would trade straight up for Richard Smith?

painekiller 09-08-2008 08:27 PM

Back on track.

moreno was slicin' kids up!!! that hurdle move looks dangerous though...if he gets hit the chances of having children are severely limited

painekiller 09-13-2008 02:38 PM

want to add a RB from Iowa, Green. He is a bowling ball type runner. Has some wiggle along with inside power. Not sure of his speed.

Another guy I like is the TE from Mizzou. He is a receiver type, but what a receiver.

Rum Runner 09-13-2008 06:30 PM

I'll have my eye on Mays for USC tonight... I actually heard a comparison to Ronnie Lott; now that some praise. I haven't seen the kid but he's got good measurables (6'3" 225), don't know about his speed though. He's described as "athletic" so I'd hope he has some speed. I also think he's a Junior.

I think we need a safety but I wouldn't look in the first round for one unless they were exceptionally better than the norm. I'd like to see if this guy fits that description.

Mays is projected by some to be a high 1st rounder, he and Moore are the preseason top safeties.

jppaul 09-17-2008 06:43 PM

From ECU Dwayne Harris really stands out at WR. Great burst and moves.

Roy P 09-22-2008 10:38 AM

I'd like to add a couple more names to the list here. The game against the Titans was bad yesterday.

http://wisconsin.rivals.com/cviewpla...r=51188#videos
OG - Andy Kemp: Wisconsin

http://fightingillini.cstv.com/sport...r_derek00.html
DE - Derek Walker: Illinois

http://www.scarletknights.com/footba...il.asp?ID=3970
S - Courtney Greene: Rutgers

http://wakeforestsports.cstv.com/spo...y_aaron00.html
LB - Aaron Curry: Wake Forest

https://admin.xosn.com/ViewArticle.d...&ATCLID=344614
QB - Dan LeFevour: Central Michigan

painekiller 09-23-2008 12:26 AM

Add Mark Sanchez to my list.

I am looking for a QB in rounds 3 -5 next season.

This team is going to struggle to get to 7 wins, my before the season prediction, the schedule and then the changed schedule will make it hard for this team to get it's feet under it.

Roy P 09-23-2008 12:48 PM

Just curious if anybody would feel happy about drafting Chase Daniel in the 4th or 5th round. He could pass to Owen Daniel and have national guys saying Daniels to Daniels.

I've always liked Double D's :p.

His height will probably keep him around until the later rounds too. How will his experience with Mizzou's spread translate....who cares. DD's are almost always worth it.

painekiller 09-24-2008 12:11 AM

My top guys right now are Rey Maualaga, size speed, would upgrade two positions by allowing Ryans to be on the outside where he could be used better. Maualaga loves to deliver the big blow and we have not had that inside imtimadated. (This is not a knock on Ryans)

All these guys upgrade our guys.
Taylor Mays, USC Height: 6'4 - Weight: 225
Myron Rolle, Florida State Height: 6'2 - Weight: 215
Kam Chancellor, Virginia Tech Height: 6'3 - Weight: 220
William Moore, Missouri Height: 6'1 - Weight: 215
Kevin Ellison, USC Height: 6'1 - Weight: 220

Top DE I am watching Greg Middleton, Indiana Height: 6'3 - Weight: 275

NBT 09-24-2008 04:09 PM

Let's see if I've got it right, in no particular order: Will/Mike LB, another RB, a QB, an OG (r or l ?), TE big, good receiving one, oh yeah, my favorite, a big speed rushing RDE, and just for luck, an OC to replace Meyers.

While I'm talking about it, I want a DC who can call a good defensive game plan, unlike Richard Smith.

Anything I've left off?

NBT 09-24-2008 04:11 PM

As always, we need to run the heck out of the ball, and stop the run (for a change!).

I like where you are going.... although its hard to not find a hole. And I was very serious when I mentioned the defensive coordinator for the Hurricanes earlier in this thread. He has a solid track record.... Kansas last year, USC before that and I believe OU before that. He was a big hire by Miami this year.

As for the team, they have NO identity, whatsoever. Personally speaking, I would start on the defensive side with Maualuga in round one, then try to find some more intimidating players to go along with him to add to Mario.

NBT 09-25-2008 03:10 PM

I can't argue with your first round choice, and with the way we are playing, we might just have the top 5 draft choice it would take to get him. Either Maualaga or Laurinatis would be fine with me, moving DeMeco out to the Will.

The reason I like Rey Rey is because of the 'tude he would bring with him. He is brash and we have not had that here. Laurinatis is not a brash type player, solid but not what I am looking for. I truly believe we need a young brash leader.

mussop 09-26-2008 01:11 AM

After watching USC get wooped by Oregan State I have officially put Clay Mathews on my watch list. For thise of you who dont know he is the son of former NFL (Cleveland Browns) linebacker Clay Mathews and nephew of Bruce Mathews former Houston Oilere Lineman. Clay Mathews Sr was one of the best to ever play. But that has nothing to do with why i'll be watching him. He was all over the field and made several big plays, even blocked a field goal.

The upcomeing game Georgia vs Alabama has 2 players I havent got to see yet but really want to watch.

Alabama junior DT Terrence ’Mount’ Cody (#62, 6-4, 365), a mountainous - he’s listed at 365 but could actually weigh as much as 385 pounds - junior college transfer who has been almost unblockable through the early part of the season.
http://www.gbnreport.com/gameoftheweek.htm

And of course RB Moreno of Georgia.

I did not see much 'tude last night from him or any of the other guys on SC. But one game will not drop him a long way, he is still the top of the watch list.

How bad is the injury to Taylor Mays? Bad enough he drops to the 2nd?

Hey bro, you are definitely preaching to the Choir on this one. I think Rey Rey (much easier than saying his last name) would help this defense immensely. But I still want that passrushing DE too.

NBT 10-06-2008 04:09 PM

But on second thought that 'Tude might just land him in hot water. Isn't Rey under indictment or something?

Rey Rey is showing signs that he has anger issues. A lot of the hits in the youtube video would be considered fineable hits in the NFL. Willis never had this kind of track record, and Rey Rey is making me think he using enhancements. No proof, just a hunch.

BTW the arrest is from a few years back, and it appears to be an isolated action. He does play out of control, and that is starting to concern me about him.

mussop 10-06-2008 04:57 PM

Anyone watched this guy lately?

Donald Brown Running back Connecticut Huskies Height: 5-10 Weight: 208

He really impressed me against a tough NC defense.

Our defens could use some players with anger issues IMO.

Saw him in 2 games now, and he is looking like a nice 3rd round back. He has speed, doesn't seem to go down on first contact and can catch the ball.

Exactly were I got him pegged, well 3rd to 4th round. I hope to get to see him again.

So far he as rushed for 1067 yards in 179 attemps and for 12 TD's with a 6.0 yard per carrie.

Check out his stats. link

That is exactly why I have more or less moved on to Laurinaitis as the best bet at ILB. Way it is looking now we may have a top 10 pick again. (I hope not.)
