Official 2010 NFL Draft Round 4, 5, 6 & 7 Thread

We have picks:
4th round 4th (102)
4th round 20th (118)
5th round 13th (144)
6th round 18th (187)
6th round 28th (197)
7th round 20th (227)

Guy I like still available: ***Guys I don't expect but would not mind
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah CB/FS Indiana, Pennsylvania
Marshall Newhouse OG TCU
Matt Tennant OG Boston College
Kyle Calloway OT Iowa
*** Dominique Franks CB Oklahoma
Cam Thomas DT North Carolina
Reshad Jones FS Georgia
Geno Atkins DT eorgia
*** John Skelton QB Fordham
Robert Johnson FS Utah
***Deji Karim RB Southern Illinois
Shelley Smith OG Colorado State
Jeff Byers OG USC
***Jameson Konz FB Kent State
***Jamar Wall CB Texas Tech

Why I think they don't go with another CB. Jackson and Quin start, McCain, Molden, Reeves and Bennett are all fighting for playing time. Might want to take a late round guy that could be a PS guy or push one of the underachievers off the roster, how many CB did we carry last season?

Why I think they don't go with another RB. Tate, Slaton, Foster, are the front runners, Moats, Jeremiah Johnson, Chris Henry are fighting hard for a job, Johnson looks to be PS guy. They will only start the year with 3 RB on the roster IMO.

Not many OG/C types out there now, but Rick Smith has been doing an excellent job of playing the board, so I am not counting them out of missing one.

Lastly McClain said today he did not think Kevin Matthews would want to be here nor would Bruce want him here, so that most likely means he is here. If we do not sign him as a UDFA ( or he is drafted by someone) he will probably go to Tennessee and play for Munchak.

I think you're right on in your assessment of the CB & RB situation.... Just a bunch of talent and potential but the underlying theme is "youth"... (of course, they will probably pick one more of each :p)

I think they got to "find" something for the interior OL. I mean, Studdard/Myers/Brisiel/Caldwell? You comfortable with that? I'm not. Would at least like to see them hit on a couple of those, perhaps one dedicated center and a guard as insurance against the injury bug... If they don't make the squad stick 'em on the PS...

Guys in bold I would not complain if they drafted one or two of them.

I would not mind Kam Chancellor, Dominique Franks, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Donovan Warren, Cam Thomas, Vince Oghobaase, or John Skelton.

There I have now jinxed all these guys for us.

DE Everson Griffen 6'4" 273 4.65 USC

Drew at TheHuddleReport.com

STRENGTHS

Everson is a stand-up DE with excellent speed and change of direction skills to rush the passer. He is strong at the point of attack and does an excellent job using his hands to keep offensive lineman away from his body so that he can get off blocks and make tackles in the run defense. Everson is smart and understands his assignments; he looks to be very coachable along with being a good teammate. Teams using a 3-4 defense should be very interested in drafting Everson because in his college defense, Everson was used as both a down lineman and as a stand up rush the passer DE who played on either side of the defensive line.

NEEDS TO IMPROVE

Although Everson looks and plays at times like a linebacker, he was not used very much in pass coverage and did not do much dropping off the line into passing lanes. He will have to go to the combine and prove that he has those LB abilities if he wants to move up in this draft. From what I see on the field, I think he has those skills but he will have to slim down to see if he can gain some quickness. Everson is fast, but not quick. This means that as a DE in a 4-3, he will have to learn the tricks of the trade and will need good coaching to free him up to rush the passer.

BOTTOM LINE

Everson is a good solid player with excellent overall skills to play in different types of defensive systems. He just doesn't have that lightning quick burst that a true pass rusher needs to have to be the type of player offensive coordinators need to be aware of when game planning. Right now, Everson is an effort DE and if you make a mistake defending him, he will make you pay. He looks on film to be a quality type of kid that every defense needs to be successful. If you team him with the right players, this kid becomes a star. If you are expecting him to be your main man, that might be a mistake on your part. If you are a good coach, you can't lose drafting this kid in any round providing you have enough skill players around him. Personally, I think if he slims down (and this is not a knock on his weight, just an observation), he just might be a hell of a MLB in the right system. I think you have a lot of options with this kid and he could sneak into the first round if his workout numbers are outstanding. In my opinion, I think that he fits the New England Patriots' defensive system really well.

There goes E.Griff to the Vikings to go along with Robison and Jared Allen.

TexanJedi 04-24-2010 09:11 AM

There goes Griffin to the Vikes.

Do we take Dwyer? Didnt Bob McNair say he wanted 2 RB's? Perhaps we get Big Cam Thomas here to push the pocket. Stuckey is a Strong Safety that I like enough to try at FS. Can we afford to take Atkins after taking Mitchell? Chaney has speed to play the WILL. UGH!!! Can we trade down again?

Nconroe 04-24-2010 09:17 AM

we are on the clock. I think a guy for OL or safety, who knows.

Keith 04-24-2010 09:17 AM

LB Darryl Sharpton

undersized LB from Miami.

Roy P 04-24-2010 09:18 AM

Ok, If I had been running the draft all along, I'm taking Geno Atkins now after selecting Brandon Ghee earlier.

If Rick Smith had died last night and The Texans called me in to take over today, I'd just take Cam Thomas.

Underwhelmed with this pick. I think Chaney or Edds would have been better if we wanted a LB. The good thing is, he DOES know how to tackle.

popanot 04-24-2010 09:26 AM

Should be one hell of a ST player. Potential conversion to SS?? Gotta think either that or they think he can compete with Diles. Honestly, I don't get this pick considering there's still a few decent OL prospects oput there.

Roy P 04-24-2010 09:32 AM

The Titans selected Alterraun Verner at #104 :( I was hoping he'd last until our next pick.

nunusguy 04-24-2010 09:33 AM

Surely we're gonna take an OLineman with our second 4th round pick ?
And on the first 4th rounder, I'm puzzled myself ?

Traded LenDale to do it.

popanot 04-24-2010 09:34 AM

LenWhale traded to Seattle. Seahawks are having a pretty nice draft.

nunusguy 04-24-2010 09:35 AM

Bruce Campbell was just picked - how many mocks actually had this guy in the first round ?

Roy P 04-24-2010 09:38 AM

The Bills selected my favorite "sleeper" WR Marcus Easely from UConn.

I wonder if the Texans will select Marshall Newhouse or Darrell Stuckey next. They are what I would consider 'tough and physical' players that we are supposedly looking for.

popanot 04-24-2010 09:45 AM

I guess Kubiak and Smith are completely satisfied with our OL.

Another TE, anyone??

Roy P 04-24-2010 09:45 AM

#118 Lots of options...

RB Jonathan Dwyer
DT Cam Thomas
CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
RB Anthony Dixon
S Darrell Stuckey
DT Geno Atkins
LB Jamar Chaney
OG Marshall Newhouse
LB AJ Edds
CB AJ Jefferson
FS Robert Johnson
RB Deji Karim
OG Shelley Smith
RB James Starks
LB Dekoda Watson
CB Walter McFadden
OC Eric Olsen
DE Corey Wooton
DE/LB Eric Norwood
DE/LB Ricky Sapp
CB Dom Franks
FS Reshad Jones
CB Perrish Cox

Reshad Jones from Georgia is still on the board.

Roy P 04-24-2010 10:02 AM

Now we are getting into the 3 or 4 different scenarios.

20 DT Dan Williams
58 RB Ben Tate
81 FS Brandon Ghee
102 DT Geno Atkins

That's what I'd be sitting on with this next pick coming up. So, I'd be selecting CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah

We currently have
20 CB Kareem Jackson
58 RB Ben Tate
81 DT Earl Mitchell
102 LB Darryl Sharpton
So, now I'd still be looking to at Cam Thomas just like I was at 102. If I had taken Cam Thomas at 102, then now I'd be drafting OL Marshall Newhouse.

popanot 04-24-2010 10:08 AM

Kubes loves his tight ends. However the Patriots took a pair. I wonder if this is Daniels insurance, in addtion to Casey. I think there were other "need" positions to take but what do I know?

It's like the Texans warroom was Ocean's 11 yesterday and today they're Ocean's 12.

Roy P 04-24-2010 10:13 AM

Wow! Garrett Graham is another TE from Wisconsin. Does this mean that Owen Daniels isn't coming back from injury? Surprised that we didn't select Dorin Dickerson and his 4.42 speed at TE. Clay Harbor would have been the TE I'd have thought about, IF I wanted a TE.

nunusguy 04-24-2010 10:13 AM

Virtually same physical size and weight as OD, even went to his school.
I'm telling, OD is gonna live to regret not signing that new contract last year when he was healthy.
And yea, what on earth are they doing getting another TE, and with a 4th round pick no less ? Why not another RB, or Olineman, or Dlineman, or CB, or safety ?

Yeah, but we took our pair last year. I have to think Daniels is a goner after this next year. The Texans apparently don't want to pay big $$ on TE... I mean, if you're going to take a smallish TE, why not Dickerson?? Graham wouldn't have been available in 5th, 6th, 7th, UFA?? I'm lost here...

Roy P 04-24-2010 10:24 AM

The Bengals STEAL Geno Atkins at #120. There must be some off-field issues that I'm not aware of, because this guy is a disrupting force.

The Falcons reached for Joe Hawley who was another ZBS-type OL.

Same with Dickerson. I have to believe he's (potentially) a much more explosive TE than Casey or Graham.
