Iirc, this is in fact one of the signs of the apocalypse. I think it falls somewhere between famine and pestilence.

The Texans won't exactly be walking billboards come training camp, but the franchise is trying to sell sponsorship patches on its players' practice uniforms this summer.

A new NFL rule allows teams to create such partnerships, which will be showcased on a patch no larger than 3½-4½ inches stitched into the left shoulder of the jerseys.

"It's a rare opportunity for somebody to gain massive exposure for their brand and align so closely with the Texans' persona," Texans' president Jamey Rootes said. ...

One thing I absolutely HATE is the ads on the front of soccer jerseys. I can live with a small patch, but I hope the NFL never goes any further down that road. It may be an easy source of quick revenue, but I think it cheapens the team's brand image. I was Academy the other day and was looking at Dynamo shirts....I refused to buy one because they all had Amigo Energy on them.

From a business perspecitve I can understand it. From a fan perspecitve I say no. I dont want to see advertising on the field nor do I want to wear it when I slap my #90 Jersey on every Sunday, even if it is a little patch.

Say what??? Off a PRACTICE jersey? Maybe if your team is the ESPN Cowpies or if the team is on NFLN Hard Knocks, but I doubt advertising on a Texans jersey will get much wide-spread exposure. Even locally with the crappy coverage in this town.

This doesn't really bother me too much, as long as they're careful who they sell the space to. It's a practice jersey, for pete's sake.

As for the soccer jerseys, I just wish they'd make better choices as to who they let buy those spots. The dynamo have pretty cool looking kits, if you ask me, minus that stupid amigo energy logo. Thankfully I bought my orange jersey in the first season, so there's no title sponsor. My white one has the logo, unfortunately.

I had the opportunity to visit argentina about 10 years ago, back when boca's title sponsor was Quilmes, which is a fantastic argentine beer. That jersey is awesome. I wear it all the time. I wasn't really into argentine soccer at the time, but when I came back I started watching. Their biggest rival is river plate, and ironically I'm way more of a river plate fan. I didn't know the difference, and the shopkeeper was obviously a river plate fan who just wanted to get rid of his boca jerseys, so I was able to get a much better price on it. still want a river jersey, though that's neither here nor there. Next time you're at ginger man, give Quilmes a go. It's kinda similar to bud light, but with WAY more flavor. It's good.

Yahoo.com (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Porn-company-wants-to-advertise-on-Texans-pract?urn=nfl,169630)

The NFL now allows individual teams to sell advertising space on their practice jerseys, and the Houston Texans have made it known that they'd like to take advantage of the new policy. For the right amount, a company could rent the space on Andre Johnson's(notes) chest while he practices.

One company has stepped up to the plate and made an offer. That company is Zero Tolerance Entertainment (that link goes to their Wikipedia entry, but there's still naughty language there), which makes and distributes hardcore pornography.

From what I've seen of their work, the name "Zero Tolerance" is a real misnomer, as most of the actresses in their films will actually tolerate quite a bit.

Why would a porno company need to advertise anyway? Doesn't porn sort of sell itself? It's not like a Swiffer WetJet, where you first have to convince someone that they need one. If someone needs some porn, they're already well aware of it.

And when picking out an adult movie, is the manufacturer of said video ever really a factor? I don't think anyone ever says, "Oh, this one's by Zero Tolerance, so you know it's good." Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the production company ever enters into the rental or purchasing decision.

I don't expect that the Texans will take them up on their offer. There may be some unscrupulous, money-grubbing owners in the league, but I don't think anyone's going to take porno money. In terms of the negative attention it would attract, putting a pornography company on your jersey is only a step or two up from advertising for Bad News Kennelz.

Gracias, Pro Football Talk.

Wonder if the company name will con old man McNair?
