Worst College Football Opener
Sucks to be a college football fan in Texas. Many teams got washed out by Harvey and three, in particular, wish it had included them:
The Longhorns, favored by 19, lost to a Maryland team which finished the game with a true freshman at quarterback and still gave up 51 points in Tom Herman's coaching debut (meanwhile Charlie Strong is 2-0 and nationally ranked). The Aggies built up a 38-10 halftime lead on UCLA only to watch the Bruins score four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to eke out a 45-44 victory, leading to calls for Kevin Sumlin's scalp. And the Baylor Bears got beat by Liberty University, 48-45, Jerry Falwell's FBS-division school in what might be divine punishment for the rape scandals plaguing their athletic department. So, which was worse? Laying an egg at home against an inferior opponent, choking on the road Oiler-style or losing to a team who isn't even Division 1-A? Tough call. They all sucked pretty badly. One thing's for sure. Nobody in these parts will be chirping about a national championship. |

Perfect storm - all three (and Harvey makes four).
I watched most of the Texas game. They obviously need to find a defense... Aggies vs. UCLA, meh, it was the way it went down. Losing to UCLA by one is not a crime... but the way it went down... Don't know what to say about Baylor but you got to feel for their new coach.... |

On the other hand, as far as I was concerned that was a pretty darn good NFL opener.
