Moved up 20 spots, cost them one of their 5ths this year and next year's 4th. Big target, I like that.

Texans select Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami U @ #147....

It's not a Texan's draft without a TE....

Not a correction so much as it was a double trade up. Seems Caserio as a first-year GM is targeting specific guys instead of letting the draft fall to him. It's cost the team several picks. Not a problem if these guys pan out, but day 2 and 3 picks are far from sure things.

Wallow seems like a Tampa 2 type ILB.

Back to Brevin Jordan, the word is he's a first round-type athlete who doesn't interview well and might not play to his athleticism. So hopefully he will take to coaching, we shall see. Plenty of other options at his position this season to let him have time to figure out how to be a pro.

Texans signed OC Ryan McCollum and OT Carson Green (both from A&M) as UDFAs. Caserio said this year's UDFA class would be small.

I really question the TE, much less trading up for the guy. He looks stiff as a board to me. I agree with Keith looks like he was not letting the draft come to him. And before the Pats picked they showed how poorly they have drafted in recent years, and the Texans thinks this is the man to go with.

IMO TE was one of the positions that they did not need to go after, they needed CB or DL.

I was not impressed by this draft. But not all could be directed at Caserio, Bill did his best to strip this draft down to nothing.

edit add= I was hoping that if they had taken a QB that it would have been Mond. He started 4 years and the kid they picked has what 12 starts?

More rookie GM pains...
Quote:
@AllbrightNFL
This one was interesting to me on day 3... the Raiders snagged him directly before the Texans, who were going to with their next pick.
https://twitter.com/AllbrightNFL/sta...22274892623872

Albright tweeted this as it related to the Texans getting sniped after trading up *twice* before ultimately selecting the TCU LB Wallow. Not a good look for Caserio at all. So not only did he fail to let the draft fall to him, he gave up three picks to move up and still whiffed.

Perhaps fortunately, Wallow may yet be a good pick. There are countless examples where teams fail to get their man but still get a player as good or better anyway. But if this is true, just another mess for the Texans and a waste of draft capital.

Listening between the lines to the Caserio interview this morning on 610AM, it really sounds like they didn't want a big draft class in this covid environment of no combing, no in-person interviews and very few zooms.

The fact that the first 2 picks had a direct connection with Pep lines up with the above. David Shaw was on 610 today as well and said he had dozens of conversations about Davis Mills with Pep over the course of the last couple of years.

That is a very bad look for the new GM. Also I don't like the way he did not let the draft come to him. But I do think they went into the draft not wanting to make 8 picks, so it looks like the plan was to get 5 guys. i just don't get the positions they drafted, all looked like they were full, and would not have the reps necessary to evaluate and teach the young players. (QB would be the exception cause Deshaun is gone as soon as this stuff clears up and he has any value).

I may be in the minority here but I’m pretty happy with this draft, sans the TCU pick. I thought there were better options available, but oh well.

IMO, Watson will be suspended for probably half if not most of the season, and don’t see him coming back for a handful of games and risk getting injured prior to any trade in the offseason.

So I can see Mills being our starter to start the season, if not a few games afterwards, same goes for Nico Collins and Brevin Jordan, hard to see them not starting early on, especially Collins.
I think Jordan does provide an upgrade to our TE position, many scouts had him as the second best TE in the draft. it will definitely make life easier for whoever is QB next season, plus what’s the point of trading so many middle picks if you don’t plan to start them.

I also envision Lopez being heavily involved, he is just a load to handle and we haven’t had that type of presence since Reader left.

So three, possibly four full-time starters out of five picks would indicate to me a pretty successful draft class.

Hopefully they can all stay healthy.
