Jags Decline Option On Fournette. Should Texans Have Interest?
Jags decline option on Leonard Fournette. He costs $4.1 mil for 2020 and an $8.6 mil cap hit. However, he now essentially becomes a free agent in 2021 so if he plays great, the Texans could re-sign him and, if he sucks, you can not only part ways with the LSU runner but also potentially get a 2021 comp pick if he signs with someone else.
I'd be willing to dangle a 3rd-to-5th round pick and see if the Jags show interest. Ideally, he could be the sort of all-purpose back that we don't have now. |

Had the Texans not already invested in David Johnson, I think it would be a worthy consideration. I take it you do not think much of Johnson as an all-purpose back, but he has receiving skills. Caught 80 balls in 2016 and 50 in 2018, his two seasons with a full 16 games.
So if Johnson and Fournette are both healthy, it's a lot of money to start the 2020 backfield (along with Duke Johnson and others). Do you suspect Johnson is damaged goods? |

I've seen better value at the landfill. Cardinals probably didn't dare dream there was a GM so stupid as to trade arguably their best player for an overpriced broken down has-been. But then there was Bill O'Brien.
