That's a heck of a draft, but just too much to give up for my taste. I also don't see Dixon lasting that long. For that cost, I'd probably go a different direction.

Also on this list Dixon was available, and iirc, Williams from Arkansas was there at that pick also.

I had heard conflicting reports that the 49ers were willing to trade down and that they were willing to trade Kaepernick (the Texans were mentioned as a suitor but apparently nobody bothered to ask the Texans first). So I tried using the offer of our 2016 #1 and 2017 #1 plus 2016 #2 to move to #7 to get Goff or Wentz. The problem was, in this sim, the Cowboys took Wentz so I could either take Lynch, take another position or trade down. I traded back down with Philly at #13 for a pair of thirds.
So I wound up with Lynch, Hooper and both Arkansas RBs but I'm out the following year's #1. |

I traded up with the 9ers again for #7 involving our #1s in 2016 and 2017 plus our #2 this year. I also traded down twice for more depth later on:

FanSpeak's first list post combine.
11: R1P11 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE 52: R2P21 DT VERNON BUTLER LOUISIANA TECH 85: R3P22 RB ALEX COLLINS ARKANSAS 120: R4P21 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA 140: R5P1 TE TYLER HIGBEE WESTERN KENTUCKY 159: R5P20 WR KOLBY LISTENBEE TCU 166: R5P27 S JAYRON KEARSE CLEMSON 198: R6P20 OT WILLIE BEAVERS WESTERN MICHIGAN Trades TRADE PARTNER: CHICAGO BEARS GET: ROUND: 1 PICK: 22 FUTURE ROUND 1 PICK TEXANS RECEIVED: ROUND: 1 PICK: 11 TRADE PARTNER: TENNESSEE TITANS GET: FUTURE ROUND 4 PICK TEXANS RECEIVED: ROUND: 5 PICK: 1 5 offensive picks 3 defensive picks Potential franchise QB, athletic NT with size, stud SEC RB with speed, day one slot CB, athletic TE, burner WR, box safety, that can cover, raw athletic OT. Two trades that give up next year, but the offense starts to rebuild now. I could endorse the draft. Nice group. If the Texans were to get Wentz, then I would consider the draft a success. Add in the other parts picked here and you added much needed depth or potential starters.

I wonder if Philly is so frustrated with Demarco Murray's attitude and contract that they'd trade out of their #1 for cheap just to dump him and his salary. I'd be inclined to give up our #1 and #2 (and maybe a future pick) if we could get the QB and Murray (RB), or if not Murray, sign Lamar Miller so we could use our other picks elsewhere. They should have cap money to do something like that this year.

I decided to trade down and seek Hackenberg or Prescott so I stockpiled picks and came away with this (Fanspeak board 3/1):

Incidentally....
While trying to mock the Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos draft at Fanspeak, I noticed they had extra choices beyond the 32nd pick in the round which I thought was a mistake. So I contacted Megan at Fanspeak and she said they had connections that have already projected the compensation picks and added those picks to their mock simulations. Which means, among other conclusions, that the Texans aren't getting any compensation picks this year.

CBS has updated their Big Board post-combine so I took a crack. Instead of trading up, I traded down and still got my QB choice of the second-tier group.
30: R1P30 QB PAXTON LYNCH MEMPHIS 52: R2P21 DT AUSTIN JOHNSON PENN STATE 62: R2P31 RB DERRICK HENRY ALABAMA 85: R3P22 TE AUSTIN HOOPER STANFORD 120: R4P21 C JACK ALLEN MICHIGAN STATE 159: R5P20 CB JONATHAN JONES AUBURN 166: R5P27 ILB JARED NORRIS UTAH 198: R6P20 WR DEMARCUS AYERS HOUSTON TRADE PARTNER: CAROLINA PANTHERS SENT: ROUND: 1 PICK: 22 RECEIVED: ROUND: 1 PICK: 30 ROUND: 2 PICK: 31 With the bonus pick acquired in the trade, I was able to get Mr. Heisman as well as Lynch. Austin Johnson is a big DT that came from Bill OBrien U. who will help whenever Wilfork runs out of gas. Allen is a name I haven't looked at before but there was a big drop between him and the next best OL on the board. He has that C-G flexibility, a former wrestler who excels at line calls and short-space movement. On the downside, he's a bit small for the pros. |

You gotta be kidding me. Fanspeak mock with 3/4 CBS board produced the QB of the future without a trade and an amazing 5 trade downs with our second round pick.

IMO, Wentz will be over-drafted in the actual draft (although, he could still be really good), and I have a feeling us amateur draft pundits (myself included) are over-valuing the rest of the QB's. I have a feeling NFL teams do not think as highly of this QB crop as we do. It would not shock me to see Goff - or even Wentz - fall that far if say the Browns fall in love with Goff instead.

From your lips to God's ears. If we stayed put and were able to draft Goff, I would be tickled pink.

I could see the Cardinals taking Dak Prescott in the 2nd round as Fisher's "Poor man's Steve McNair" - If that happens and we didn't have a QB, I would rather have Kevin Hogan than Christian Hackenberg....hell, Connor Cook and his "baggage" would be a better option than Hackenberg.

Fanspeak updated their board 3/8 so I partook. Had a trade down with the Packers from 22 to 27 and gained some third-day picks:
