Any computer simulation mock draft is only as good as the database you are using. I chose the latest updated Draftgeek draft list and the results were too good to be true.
#22 WR Laquon Treadwell #52 NT Jarran Reed # 85 TE Hunter Henry #120 QB Dak Prescott (I was nervous about the pick since Kevin Hogan was chosen earlier in the round) #159 OG Christian Westerman - too good to pass up here. Hoped that Kenyan Drake would last for my next pick. #166 RB CJ Prosise (220lbs feature back - I'll take it) #198 ILB Nick Vigil I then did a CBS Draftline database draft on Fanspeak and came away with this: #22 QB Paxton Lynch #52 WR Josh Doctson #85 RB Kenneth Dixon #120 DE Matt Ioannidis #159 NT Javon Hargrave #166 TE Henry Krieger-Coble #198 OLB Victor Ochi

Used DraftGeek on this one, man their list is nuts
29: R1P29 QB JARED GOFF CALIFORNIA (2nd QB taken) 52: R2P21 DT VERNON BUTLER LOUISIANA TECH 85: R3P22 TE HUNTER HENRY ARKANSAS 93: R3P30 WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON MISSISSIPPI STATE 120: R4P21 RB JONATHAN WILLIAMS ARKANSAS 129: R4P30 OT REES ODHIAMBO BOISE STATE 159: R5P20 DT MATT IOANNIDIS TEMPLE 166: R5P27 C JACK ALLEN MICHIGAN STATE 167: R5P28 CB CRE'VON LEBLANC FLORIDA ATLANTIC 198: R6P20 WR DEMARCUS AYERS HOUSTON TRADE PARTNER: ARIZONA CARDINALS GET: ROUND: 1 PICK: 22 (OLB JAYLON SMITH) TEXANS RECEIVED: ROUND: 1 PICK: 29 (QB JARED GOFF) ROUND: 3 PICK: 30 (WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON) ROUND: 4 PICK: 30 (OG/OT REES ODHIAMBO) ROUND: 5 PICK: 28 (CB CRE'VON LEBLANC) I was trying to to do Roy's no trade mock, but they offered me to much to drop 7 spots. Goff at 29, no way it happens IMO. But I take it. I took two DTs, one will be a NT one a 5 tech DE. Not sure who will be what, but I can guess. I also got the best TE in the draft in the 3rd round, I jumped. Crazy list to mock to. Some of these are old names for me and some are new, I can't wait until we know the teams real needs after FA starts.

The list seems ridiculous. Getting Goff at #29 and Hunter Henry in the 3rd round is just unbelievable. Then, you take a look team by team and it isn't too crazy.

Fanspeak Walter Football 2/22 Mock w/ trades
I took my own suggestion and made a pre-draft trade up in the first round to try to improve our QB options in the draft. As mentioned in another thread, the Eagles did not have a 2nd round pick so I offered our #1 (22) and #2 for Philly's #13 and was rejected. So I added our 5th (the 20th pick that round) and they took the bait. Later, I traded out of the 4th round to pick up a 5th and 6th from San Francisco, giving us a 1st, 3rd, two 5ths and 2 6ths.
Walter Football was the most recently updated so I used that one which had Carson Wentz ranked 10th on their big board. He was still there at #13. 13: R1P13 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE 85: R3P22 RB ALEX COLLINS ARKANSAS 142: R5P3 TE NICK VANNETT OHIO STATE 166: R5P27 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA 198: R6P20 OT ALEX LEWIS NEBRASKA 210: R6P32 K ROBERTO AGUAYO FLORIDA STATE All my guys after this seem to be folks with versatility and special teams potential other than Alex Lewis. Collins is a solid all-around back whose one major knock is ball security. Vannett disappeared with all the talent at OSU but CBS had him rated as the third-best TE who also can be used as a slot receiver or FB. Jones is a converted receiver who returns kicks and can pick off passes. Still raw as a corner though. Aguayo is clearly the top kicker on the board. Alex Lewis is a guy with 2nd-round talent at LT but has a temper that needs to be controlled. He was sentenced to 45 days while at Colorado for beating a man unconscious and also had discipline issues at Nebraska after he transferred but he was also a team captain with the Huskers. He could be a cheap steal or a huge bust. In the 6th, that's worth a gamble. |

I did two mocks today: the first time was with the Fanspeak database:
#22 QB Paxton Lynch #52 WR Josh Doctson #85 RB Kenneth Dixon #120 SS Miles Killebrew #159 NT Javon Hargrave #166 TE Jerell Adams #198 TE Henry Krieger-Coble The 2nd time I chose the Risden database and I felt silly: #22 QB Jared Goff #52 Laquon Treadwell #85 OT Shon Coleman #120 WR Tyler Boyd #159 RB Jordan Howard #166 DE Matt Ioannidis #198 OT Kyle Murphy

Cause I just watched Hackenberg's media time. Seems like a good kid, talks the BOB talk. I used Walter's List.

2/27 Fanspeak w/NFLMock w/trades
It appears Fanspeak will allow you, as the Texans, to send our 1st, 2nd and our first 5th-rounder to Philadelphia for their 1st (13th overall) anytime you want to do it. I tried some other variations of the deal and it always refuses.
The strategy, at this point, has three prongs: 1. Trade up to #13 and hope Goff or Wentz falls to you. I've been able to make this work about 60% of the time. If it doesn't work, then you have to decide whether to trade back down or grab someone else that unexpectedly fell. 2. Stay put at #22 and take Lynch or Cook if they are available. 3. Take another player at #22 or trade down but ultimately, aim for the next group of Prescott and Hackenberg. I prefer the idea of getting the best QB we can afford without giving up a future #1. Losing your second-rounder hurts but if the reward is Goff or Wentz, it is a good deal. Later, I traded out of the 4th round to San Francisco for an early 5th and a late 6th to give us 6 overall choices. 13: R1P13 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA ST 85: R3P22 TE AUSTIN HOOPER STANFORD 142: R5P3 RB JONATHAN WILLIAMS ARKANSAS 166: R5P27 OT-OG DENVER KIRKLAND ARKANSAS 198: R6P20 ILB JARED NORRIS UTAH 210: R6P32 K ROBERT AGUAYO FLORIDA ST Williams is a value pick in the 5th. He was projected a third rounder who was out all last season with a foot injury but appeared at the Senior Bowl. I like backs who didn't get run to death in college and are undervalued because of it. Kirkland is a massive man with experience at G and OT who can fill in at any of 4 positions along the line but needs refinement. Norris is a 3-4 ILB who makes up for being a step slow with a quick first step and great ball-hunting instincts. How much longer will we have Cushing? McKinney fills one spot but we need someone else to challenge here. |

I can see why we want to be aggressive about trading up for a Franchise QB. However, the only guy ready to step in and take over the team on day one is Goff, in my opinion. I like Wentz's upside, but would be scared to trade ao much to get him.

After watching Wentz's footwork today, I will have to say that I am impressed. He has made progress since Mobile. So, after 2nd thought, I would be ok with trading up to 13 for him. I wouldn't do that deal for Lynch though. After watching Wentz today, I doubt he drops to #13 so perhaps it is a moot point. :/

And I also like the fact that I was able to keep all my picks for this draft. If Wentz turns out as expected, then two ones is worth it. AFC South would have Luck, Bortles, Mariota, and then Wentz. Pretty solid potential top to bottom.

I'm a proponent of surrounding whoever the QB is with talent. A RB, TE, WR, and OL to protect him.

In this draft, I fully agree. We have to jump start the offense. So, the question becomes Would you rather trade a 1st, 2nd and 5th to Philly for #13 or trade a 1st and next year's 1st to Oakland for pick #14? The answer may be that Philly might take our QB at #13 or trade down with the Rams who might take our QB at #13.
It all may be for nothing if Goff and Wentz continue to impress but there's a long way to go. |

The fear will always be that 4th rounder out plays the 1st rounder. Also with BOB I don't see them keeping a fourth QB, so one of them would most likely be staffed on IR.
So not a likely draft

It's not likely, but I would like to see who picks up the Offense quicker.

Heard that Chargers are willing to trade #3. So I tried it on fanspeak.
Used DraftTek chart 3: R1P3 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA ST 85: R3P22 RB KENNETH DIXON LOUISIANA TECH 120: R4P21 TE NICK VANNETT OHIO ST 159: R5P20 S SEAN DAVIS MARYLAND 166: R5P27 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA 198: R6P20 WR KOLBY LISTENBEE TCU TRADE PARTNER: SAN DIEGO CHARGERS GET: ROUND: 1 PICK: 22 ROUND: 2 PICK: 21 FUTURE ROUND 1 PICK FUTURE ROUND 2 PICK TEXANS GET: ROUND: 1 PICK: 3 Expensive Trade, so the question becomes "Is Wentz the Guy"?
