The picks through the first three rounds:

CB Derek Stingley Jr. (#3)
OG Kenyon Green (#15)
S Jalen Pitre (#37)
WR John Metchie III (#44)
LB Christian Harris (#75)

Four guys from the SEC (including the last two from Alabama), one from Big 12. High ceilings, some with injury histories. One trade down, two trades up.

I thought defensive end was more of a need than TE.
Hopefully we address the pass rush soon.

At #107, super excited about RB Pierce. Love runners that are willing to cut inside, initiate contact, and flow downhill. Too many guys flash in college by bouncing outside and getting cheap gains that are non-existent with the speed of the pros.

Texans then traded up again, giving #166 (5th) & #207 (6th) to the Bears for #150 (5th) to select DL Thomas Booker from Stanford. Booker is a sub-5 forty athlete, 6'3" 301#. Will be a versatile contributor on the DL. Some Stanford guys already in the house at Kirby (Mills, Pep) probably know this smart guy quite a bit.

At #170, Texans select Oregon TE Teagan Quitoriano, 6'5" 256. 4.9 forty profiles as more of a blocking TE but has solid hands. Might lose in a footrace against Booker, which probably says more about Booker than anything.

Texans take Cy Fair HS OL Austin Deculus at #205. Yet another player from LSU and the SEC, and another from the greater Houston area. This is the team's last pick of the 2022 draft unless Caserio wants to use future picks to get back in.

Lovie needs his CBs to make his defense work. The team previously signed Steven Nelson, so we will see a new secondary this fall. Some depth at the position, too, with Desmond King and Lonnie Johnson returning.
I had wondered if there was a connection. Now I know thanks for the information.
