Default Official Texans @ Giants Game Thread, 11/13/2022

The 1-6-1 Texans hit the road to take on the 6-2 New York Giants in an early game Sunday on CBS. The Giants are coming off a 27-13 road loss to the Seahawks, the Texans are coming off a 29-17 home loss to the Eagles on TNF.

Quarterbacking the Giants is Daniel Jones (143/220, 65% comp, 174.9 yds/gm, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 88.0 rating). Top rusher is Saquon Barkley - 779 yds, 4.8 avg, 97.4 avg/gm. Jones himself has 363 yards rushing. The top receivers are WR Darius Slayton (232 yards, 14.5 avg) and WR Richie James (191 yards, 9.6 avg.). Barkley also has 189 yards receiving. The Giants defense is rated 3rd in the league vs. passing (6.3 yds/att) and 23rd vs. the rush (4.9 ypc).

The Texans might be able to run on these guys. The Texan defense is concerning - their finest hour so far was when they held the Jags to 6 pts a month ago. At least LB Christian Harris is in the fold and getting some playing time. There is a buzz that the Giants may be overrated and not as good as their record indicates. Guess we'll find out....

Pierce was listed on Wednesday's practice report as "limited" with a chest/should injury. Doesn't seem to be at much of a risk for missing the next game, but I'm curious to see how it may restrict his otherwise angry running style.

Rex Burkhead is still listed behind Pierce on the depth chart, but if Pierce were to miss any carries at all, sure would be nice to see Dare Ogunbowale take them instead of Rex. Ogunbowale had those 5 late receptions for 54 yards against the Raiders three weeks ago, then basically nothing the next two games against the Titans and Eagles.

Also, Brandin "Chamin Soft" Cooks finished pouting about not being traded and attended practice this week. Will be interesting to see how involved he is in the gameplan. I wonder too how his teammates feel about his absence last week.

Yes, I like what I've seen of Ogunbowale so far. He's got smooth moves. He needs more playing time....

Wow, Texans are going to have to beat the officials today, too. I just saw a terrible DPI on Nico Collins not called....

This is the sort of game for the offense though where you're glad they can't score negative points. Thankful to be down by just a touchdown.

Pierce found his groove with a couple of nice runs, one a 44 yarder.

Texans end up having to go for the FG.

Fairbairn is good from 38.

Giants 7, Texans 3

11:27 left in the half.

The Texan defense has stiffened a bit... They are keeping the Giants from scoring. However, the Texans are having trouble moving the ball. 4 total passing yards. lol

Giants are now pinned on their 3 thanks to a fine punt by Johnston.

2:10 left in the half. Still 7-3.

Start of 2nd half.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeez, on 3rd and 9, a pass to the flat goes for a TD for the Giants. 54 yards. Jones to Slayton.

Giants 14, Texans 3

12:33 left in the 3rd qtr.

Nice pass by Mills to Nico Collins for the TD. 12 yards.

Giants 14, Texans 10

8:06 left in the 3rd qtr.

----------------------------------------

Davis Mills good half/bad half act is puzzling.... Hopefully, I didn't jinx him....

Ouch. Pierce fumbles inside the Giant's 10 and the Giants recover.

Still 21-10 with about 13 and a half minutes left in the game.

Oh jeez. Mills hits Cooks for the TD but holding on Green brings it back.

Next play, Mills throws an INT in the end zone.

Giants ball at their 20.

9:49 left in the game.

Fairbairn good from 46.

Giants 24, Texans 16

7 seconds left.

---------------------------------------------

Onside kick recovered by the Giants.

End of game.

--------------------------------------------

The Giants don't appear to be all that but they beat the Texans. Barkley was 35/152 for a 4.3 avg. That's a lot of carries. Meh. Unfortunately, the Texan defense made the QB (Jones) look like Joe Montana - 13/17, 197 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 153.3 rating (!). Pressure on Mills was a big factor. The Texan OL is pretty bad in pass protect. The Texans had 2 turnovers, the Giants none.

Up next is the Washingtons at NRG. Early line is Washington by 2½.
