I must say I've noticed the difference. Hopkins has turned into a possession receiver, the tight ends are medium-deep threats, and Fuller is there to scare secondaries that he might actually catch a deep ball.
Hyde and Johnson offer just enough of a running threat to not be ignored. I'm still not sure we can beat the Colts unless we bring back Brandon Weeden. |

I rewatched the game last night and the thing that stuck out to me were these new sets of plays where Watson rolls out right or left, he's got a TE (Fells) right in front of him, someone else (slot?) a little deeper then and then a WR (Fuller) even a little more deeper. Watson also could keep the ball and run. Good blitzbeaters and very Kubiakian. They were very successful until the Chiefs adjusted and then they were still kinda successful. You may recall a couple of penalties for "lineman downfield" to which Fouts observed the linemen couldn't tell if it was going to be a run or a pass so, I don't think they've worked out all the kinks out yet.
It was kind of refreshing to see. Watson should not have to be confined to being a pocket passer 100% of the time... |
