I believe Rex came in and did something that our qbs are not accustomed to. That is putting the ball down field. Kyle knew that Grossman loves to air it out so he drew up some plays that fit his style.

Now if he can pick and choose the right moments to make those passes he will be an excellent back up.

IMO Dan Orlavsky reminds me of David Carr. He has unending potential. He was on a horrible team I would imagine he still has a bit a shell shock.

Just a side note, even our third string run defense is horrible.

J. Johnson 5-43 yd.
C. Smith 9-43 yd.
J. Freeman 3-27 yd.
17-113 yd. 6.6 ypc

I hope this is not a trend for the upcoming season.

I believe teams have found that we are so desperate to get to the qb now that they are just letting us come in, and just running it right up the gut on us. Or the oh so successful screen pass that has been killing us this preseason.

You realize two of those guys are QBs right. That has nothing to do with run defense. Their non-Qbs went 20-54 yards.

Now it means nothing in a preseason game with no starters, but either way there is no reason to complain about run defense last night.

It doesnt seem like Grossman can see anyting between 5 and 20 yards in front of him. He either dumps it or airs it.

I was not impressed with Foster as the power back to help Slaton. Now I understand why Rick Smith was focused on saying Chris Brown was already in the building. I just hope Brown stays healthy.

We seriously need Brian Cushing to become what we expected him to be when we drafted him. Hopefully, he can take half of the field from DeMeco Ryans because the other LB and the S positions are pretty bad. Right now, I'd be wanted Kevin Bentley to play the WILL.

I understood the thought process of drafting Anthony Hill, but was not happy about it. After last night, I'm really not happy with that pick. If you are going to get a TE who can't catch a pass, you might as well play an extra OT.

Grossman looked very poised and confident in his hometown against scrubs. If he could bottle that and sell it, he'd be making more than the league minimum. I was sure Kubiak would not be keeping 3 QBs, but now, I think 3 QBs makes more sense than 3 Long Snappers.

Jacoby Jones once again makes a good impression to make the roster. It wouldn't make sense to cut him, he has some trade value.

Connor Barwin - I still think he was worth a 1st round pick.

Frank Okam and Shaun Cody - Should make the DL better even with the loss of Travis Johnson. If Okoye will step his game up and Antonio Smith plays to his contract, the Defense should rank higher than 23rd.

I agree Foster is not a power back compliment. I thought he looked very good as a runner, but he runs with less power and less ability to move the pile than slaton. He can make people miss, but he definitely isn't a power guy. I like him more than moats though because he shows good patience in a system that rewards it.

We are still without a short yardage back. Brown runs with good power, but he runs high and isn't an ideal short yardage guy. Short yardage is not about size. Marcus Allen was probably the best short yardage guy of all time because he ran low and hit the hole hard. We may fare a little better in the redzone with Brown, but it will still not be a strength.

I think Brown runs with power and does so in short yardage situations in spite of the fact that he does run too verticle. Did you see the 4th and short against NOLA Monday night when he was stopped behind the los but still managed to move forward enough to pick up the first-down ?
And I do agree with RPs assessment of Hill: why not use an Eric Winston (who was also actually a TE before being converted to OT), who could probably still catch a pass as well as Hill (very, very low bar there) if need be but still be a more effective blocking TE.

I agree that Brown runs with good power. He is a good compliment to Slaton. I just don't think he is a great short yardage guy that will solve all of our redzone problems.

And I agree Hill looked bad as a receiver. I didn't watch close enough to judge him as a blocker yet.

Hill looked like he was not ready for the hits. If he can overcome that (and as a TE he has to expect it) then he looks the part. I said at the beginning of TC that he would be the one to go to the PS, not Casey.
