I'd be expecting an announcement here soon about visiting Kubiak. ![]()

If he's healthy, I'll take him over Chris Brown.

His groin injury was still sore enough that he was not taking part in the minicamps however, assuming he can pass a physical, I would suggest the Texans sign him. I was skeptical of his abilities coming out of UT but he showed that he could fit the Broncos system which is very similar to ours and, when healthy, he can run downhill and make that cut back that RBs in our system have to have to make the running game work. He's from Houston, is not a problem kid, knows the basic offense, can pass block, catch passes, certainly won't cost as much as Ahman Green and provides insurance for Slaton. He also has some kick return skills.
He doesn't have goalline strength to dependably score in short yardage so he ought to be viewed more as a back-up than a specialist. But given the likelihood Slaton gets dinged sometime during the season, having a back who can step in and start is a good thing to have. |

I would be shocked if he wasnt signed to our roster. Hoping that he would be released and would be a natural fit here after the Broncos drafted a new RB in #1 may have had something to do with not drafting a RB.
At the same time it wouldnt suprise me if he never gets a sniff, although a guy that you know can avg 5YPC in your system is not something you would normally not even sniff at. It will depend alot on his contract requirements also. If he wants #1 money it aint gonna happen. But if he were healthy I would be happy to see him and Slaton split carries/catches 50/50, and carry 1 bigger goal line back. |

Just my opinion..... |

I think if we can get Selvin in here without a huge financial committment, then we do it. And then we remain in the market for a bigger back. The truth is we probably need to sign at least 2 more backs before training camp in addition to any UDFA we bring in. I say Slaton, Young, and EJames would get us through next year (that is unless a rookie back unseats one of them which is all the better). |

I take back everything I said about the Texans not drafting a back, though when they were able to sign Foster and Johnson I already felt better, if they can sign (a healthy) Selvin Young. I know he's not a banger but we just need someone credible to go with Slaton.

BTW - What is his injury? Why wouldn't he pass the Denver physical? |

BTW, his career yards-per-carry in Denver was 5.1.

Selvin would be a pretty sweet add if he regains full health. Should Slaton ever go down, Young would slip right in and not miss a beat. This would work well if Foster or Chris Brown can step up and be the big back to round out the group.
Denver started 2008 4-1 with a healthy Young in their RBBC. In fact, here's Young's contributions in those first five games last season: 7-36 (5.1) - W 8-78 (9.8) - W 11-65 (5.9) - W 11-49 (4.5) - L 10-38 (3.8) - W That's a total of 47 rushes for 266 yards and a 5.66 YPC. Yummy. Quote:
Sign him, then ship him to the preseason PUP. |

In the role I envision for him, he won't be needed early in the season anyway but I would probably insist on our own doctors checking him out before signing him. If they say "operate" and he refuses, I probably would pass. If our doctors say "just rest" or they say "operate" and he agrees to the operation, I'd probably be good with signing him and then PUPing him. Like I said, he's not going to be pricey and he's good insurance if healthy but there's no need to sign him if he can't be ready to go eventually.
