Default Preseason game: Saints @ Texans, 8/13/2022

It's that time again. Texans first preseason game is on a Saturday night at 7pm. Mostly likely televised on ABC 13.

I have no idea how this will play out, especially since the 3-game preseason schedule is still new. I'm sure there will be lots of player shuffling and whatnot.....

--------------------------------------------------

On another note, if there is no manufactured crisis' in the next few weeks, I am taking my motorcycle to Las Vegas, NV for 6 nights at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino. I intend to arrive on Wednesday, Sept 7 and leave on Tuesday Sept 13, IOW, the entire NFL week 1 (plus Saturday college ball). I will only be on cell during this time. It will be my first trip to Las Vegas so I will probably do all the touristy things.... Visit the Mob Museum, Neon Museum, etc. Gonna hit all the major sportsbooks and probably lay down a few future bets. Yep, I'll throw down a bet on the Texans win total (over). (Does anybody else see a lot of live dogs in week 1?).

At any rate the plan is to be back in town by Week 2's Sunday games.

Noooooo. They're not doing that are they? Recent videos i've watched with people on the streets and in casinos in Las Vegas show the majority unmasked....

I rejected all hotels and motels on the trip if they required masking.....

Texans vs Saints – Quite a (Preseason) History | Vandermeer's View:

Quote:
Congratulations! We've made it through the early part of Texans Camp and now comes the really fun part – GAMES!

I say 'we've made it' as if it was some kind of effort to stand in the hot sun watching the team practice. It's really the players and coaches doing all of the heavy lifting. I watched Sunday's session with Johnathan Joseph and he told me it's tough going against your own team so much and eventually you just want to hit a real opponent.

Well, bring on New Orleans. Those pesky Saints are back. And the Texans have faced them in the preseason since the very beginning, 20 years ago.

You know I love to talk about Texan history – here's some highlights, in one case a lowlight, of preseason games against this squad –

Texans PR released a depth chart...
https://twitter.com/LandryLocker/sta...08561116815362

Stingley and Pitre are listed as the starters at CB and S, respectively. I have not attended any camp practices, but the buzz on Pitre has been very good. Will be interesting to see how this looks with half of the starting secondary with zero NFL game experience.

The RB depth chart still favors the vets, Mack and Burkhead. Very curious to see Mack in preseason, but hopes are still high that Dameon Pierce takes over early in the season.

Jeez, who is AJ Cann?

Answer: Your Houston Texans starting right guard.

7 years with the Jags. Limited action last year (injury?) but plenty of experience. 6' 3", 320 lbs. Went to school at South Carolina.

Looks like I'm going to have to up my game with "Meet the Texans" this year....

-------------------------------------------------------

Over/Under season win totals - AFC South:

Indianapolis 10
Tennessee 9
Jacksonville 6½
Houston 4½

-------------------------------------------------------

Confirming Texans vs. Saints preseason game will be shown on ABC13, Saturday @ 7:00 pm. NFLN might show replays during the following week....

After 1st quarter, Saints lead 7-3.

Saints scored on a 9 yard pass from Andy Dalton to Dwayne Washington. Texans scored on 49 yard Fairbairn FG after an INT from Tremon Smith.

Driskel in at QB for the Texans on the last possession. Ian Book currently QB'ing the Saints.

Texans just recover a fumble. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo on the recovery.

Pierce with 2 nice runs, one a 20 yarder as the Texans enter the Saints red zone.

Driskel hits Jalen Camp in the endzone for a 4 yard TD pass.

Texans take the lead:

Texans 10, Saints 7

11:50 left in the half.

Pierce looking good, Driskel looking good until a pass goes through the hands of Pierce and is INT'ed by Hansen of the Saints. He returns it 45 yards to the Texan 42. Saints ball with about 5:40 left in the half.

Saints got a FG to tie the game at 10.

Fairbairn missed a 59 yarder (long enough but wide right) as the half come to a close:

Texans 10, Saints 10

Saints added a FG about 2½ minutes into the 4th qtr to take the lead by 3.

With little time left, Driskel led the Texans down field for the go ahead score. Rookie Johnny Johnson III had a big catch and then the scoring catch, a 6 yard pass from Driskel with 25 seconds left.

Final score:

Texans 17, Saints 13

------------------------------------------------------

Didn't see much of Davis Mills ... Driskel, however, didn't look too bad - if anything, he showed he could be a functional to good backup QB......

Pierce really looked good. Spencer Tillman was comparing him to Arian Foster...... Not sure about that one - need to see how he does against A-teams.... He might be a gem, though.... So far, he has shown to be an exciting runner.

DL Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (Rams 3 years) and rookie LB Jake Hansen (Illinois) had good games. DE Derek Rivers had 2 sacks.

Pierce did look great. He gets to the line quickly and his first cut each time was good. Can lower his shoulder, too. Only have to temper the excitement a little since this came against what I assume is mostly the second-team Saints defense.

I didn't get flashbacks to Foster, style-wise I mean, so I assume Tillman is just trying to relate what he is seeing to the average Texans viewer. Pierce is a smaller guy than Foster. The similarities might just be that the Texans haven't had a back with the promise of Pierce since Foster.

Yes, I think so. Tillman suggesting he (Pierce) may have Foster-like production and big play capabilities and it's been a while since the Texans have had that.

Also, it's been a while since they've had a big play/dangerous punt returner/kickoff returner. (Jacoby Jones was the last?) It would be nice if they could find one of those somewhere....
